I thought supermarkets were open on Boxing Day, oops. I guess it's just other retail stores.

They normally are, Asda are just closing this year as a sort of thanks/reward to staff for working throughout the pandemic. M&S are doing so too but Tesco and the others are resisting it atm. Some retailers like the Entertainer close every year on boxing day anyway as a point of principle

I think its a lovely gesture they have worked so hard over the year, should be closed every Boxing day tbh
Our work has given us the Monday to Wednesday before Christmas off

Quite right too. It's just a crappy retail job, why should they have to give up their Boxing Day?

All retail should stay closed. Good on M&S and Asda for being the first supermarkets to put staff above profit
It's good to see them acknowledging the hard work and critical service they did for the country this year

Yeah, another way to thank them for their hard work during the pandemic, demean their job and its value.

Maaate I couldn't do it! My stint in retail was in a relatively "nice" shop and even that turned me into a hideous twisted goblin, so god only knows how they cope in supermarkets!
