Gotta be better than those prequels they tried but flopped.

As long as they actually focus on the plot and not on melodramatic nonsense, or turn it into a Crime Procedural (shudders) then Alien could make for a great TV Series.

However I never trust TV Shows when they adapt a story from another medium.

Those Alien vs Predator films were set on Earth and they weren't great. (I only saw the first one.)

having some Alien vs Predator: Requiem vibes with this tbh (in a way like also aliens in a small town)

in the timeline, this is set 2 years before the first alien film :)

for those unaware who Sydney Chandler is, she is the daughter of Kyle Chandler (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, King Kong)

Essie Davis is a well known australian actress (known for her roles in Australia, Assassin's Creed, Charlotte's Web)

and we all know Timothy Olyphant i think (the Justified lead, or the Die Hard 4.0 lead villain, as well as for playing James Stacy in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood)

I'll always remember Olyphant primarily for Scream 2

Peter Pan names, wonder where they're going with that.

this could explain it

a woman who has the body of an adult and consciousness of a child

Sydney Chandler's character Wendy very intriguing personality i think, into this franchise tbh

Disney+ via Hulu

Hulu has been delivering fab content recently honestly, compared to the disney+ originals, i bet Disney is very pleased with Hulu on its streaming service

indeed Timothy Olyphant's synth look gives me Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner vibes too (and also in a good way same what this person in the video said)

um regarding Miss Yutani character, we had this character at the end of Alien vs Predator: Requiem btw, when that military colonel guy played by Robert Joy hands her one of the predators weapons

episode 1

love the storyline with the Prodigy Corporation, who transfer the minds of terminally ill children into adult synthetic bodies

i agree with the critics, this is such a wonderful way to pay tribute to the first Alien film, the visuals are awesome, also the nostalgia with the ship design similar to the Nostromo's interior

Love the addition of other alien lifeforms rather than just the Xenomorphs, this also showcases Weyland-Yutani as quite darker and more evil than we know them from the films so far

the acting work is phenomenal! especially Timothy Olyphant is up there with Lance Henriksen's Bishop tbh :flutter:

now as for some shady characters

the ''cyborg-human'' Morrow, omg he is on a whole different level more evil than Ash even :o

and the Boy Kavalier character, ''youngest trillionaire, and CEO of Prodigy Corporation'' i don't trust him that much, especially after Morrow saying ''where is Boy Kavalier'' so he might have a hidden agenda or something

but yes, episode 1 my score 10.0 :clap1:

Nicky91

Episode 2

that rich people party in the hotel/building, such arrogant idiots, glad they got what they deserved by that xenomorph :joker: also so much blood, bodies torn apart, loving those visuals, that is soooooo Alien signature all over

Miss Yutani first scene, glad we see more from that weyland-yutani boss, second time after Alien vs Predator: Requiem basically

the eyeball alien emerging from the cat was very well made horror at its finest and scariest!

and the ending, with the xenomorph eggs, and just as you think a facehugger might emerge from one of the eggs Wendy/Marcy's brother gets snatched by the Xenomorph and taking somewhere below, with Wendy chasing after it, that was a very well made tense scene

episode 2 my score 10.0

some critics in my nation are moaners, with their ''trying to create a deeper story'' bull**** criticism, this series does exactly everything right where Prometheus/Alien Covenant kinda failed to impress

and Timothy Olyphant is a worthy successor to Lance Henriksen in the franchise, Kirsh is so similar to Bishop but also yet very authentic still :D

Nicky91

so far, i totally agree with 90% of Rotten Tomatoes

so much hard work gone into this

Nicky91

episode 3

WOW :clap1:

for real my fave character in the entire franchise must be Olyphant's Kirsh, he is more similar to Bishop, than to Ash, also how he is a sort of father figure for the synth/human hybrids

also love how they are going deeper into the Xenomorphs method of communicating, like we saw in the second film, with the queen basically telling her drones to back away, when Ripley threatened to destroy the eggs

also love the more detailed anatomy of the facehugger, with the embryo inside of that being so incredibly tiny, which they are thoroughly experimenting with, getting this inside another alien creature to see what it does next

but that Boy Kavalier kid really i already feel the whole ''he'll get his comeuppance'' vibe with him, and his arrogance, good thing Kirsh pulled him away from the facehugger just in time :joker:

my score: 10.0

such a wholesome series which does the franchise so much justice, i deffo look differently towards the films now either :flutter:

also love the podcasts after each episode in extra's :D

interviews with some of the cast, as well as costume designers and with director Noah Hawley

episode 4

alright, Prodigy Corporation blackmailing Wendy/Marcy and Joe to work with them or else they won't see each other again :( not very surprising tbh

the poor sheep with that eyeball alien thingy, also cool though the eyeball takes over whichever creature, organic it infects if it wants to, also a highly intelligent species indeed how it was looking at Kirsh following its movements

and Nook pregnant? how on earth can a synthetic be pregnant or think she is pregnant, makes me think they are more human than we initially thought, unlike Kirsh who is a full synthetic like Bishop (although Kirsh also shows signs of possibly developing emotions i think, how he doesn't like being ordered around all the time by Kavalier)

love how deep they are going in terms of the xenomorphs methods of communication with each other, also love how Wendy/Marcy can mimic those sounds to perfection, making that chestburster even allow her to touch it, that was a very cool ending scene of this episode :D

another awesome episode :clap1:

episode 5

one word: AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

it was like watching the first Alien film, in this one episode, flashback regarding how everything went down on the Maginot, before it crashed on earth

also Morrow ain't a villain  but Boy Kavalier is, he intentionally wanted this ship to crash in one of his cities so the alien lifeforms are his property

the eyeball alien T.Ocullus, very interesting little being, also highly intelligent, i also like how we are learning more about the Xenomorphs as well, like being able to even burst from someone while in a cryotube

and those parasite things, ewwww also very clever how it dropped its embryos in someone's water, but letting itself being seen between one's sandwich as a distraction so they won't pay attention to that water, horrible way to die as those parasites cling to one's heart, and when you remove it, acid for blood :worry:

11.0 this is Scifi TV at its literal best :worship:

Noah is soooo right, in the episode 5 podcast interview

''commercial breaks ruin the magic of good tv shows''

and apparently
the first scenes in episode 1 on board the maginot were filmed early days, compared to the scenes for episode 5 on the maginot, the almost short film length, and apparently actor Babou Ceesay who plays Morrow, didn't know his character's backstory at filming episode 1 but got to know it, some time later upon filming episode 5 scenes

and also even though you know most of the maginot crew end up dying, apart from Morrow, i agree with Noah, you still have the same feeling about wanting them to survive, and some scenes were filmed with the so called Aliencam, from the Xenomorph's point of view, to add to that same horror as the first film had

and it seems the addition of the extra alien lifeforms such as T.Ocellus (Eyeball Midge) and the Ticks, and The Fly is done on purpose to expand the canon, so also doing Fede Alvarez a favor, for possible new upcoming film concepts

and No, Sigourney Weaver isn't the voice of Muthur of the Maginot, it does sound like her though, that also was done on purpose by a voice actress, with a bit of help from AI

Nicky91

episode 6

poor Isaac  but damn that eyeball is sooooooo smart

also our first facehugger action of the series, poor Arthur :( one of the employees there with common sense

and i really hope Boy Kavalier will get his comeuppance, playing the victim, like the weyland-yutani ship crashed into his city, like we know better now after the last episode how he is responsible for that

what is Kirsh up to? he doesn't mention Isaac's death and Arthur grabbed by a facehugger, thanks to Aarush/Slightly to Kavalier, but just saying to Kavalier's ''is everything okay'' Affirmative

also i think Isaac's death might done something to Kirsh, considering Isaac was his lab partner, also whom chose his own new name

and it was pretty stupid of Isaac, not to go with someone else to the lab but by himself  even Kirsh asked him to ask Curly to join him with feeding the creatures, advice which he ignored

anyway top episode again

episode 7

WHEWWWWWWWWWW! this series is the best thing since the start of this franchise

Wendy being able to order the Xenomorph what to do, is soooooo cool :flutter:

those xeno kills at those weyland yutani soldiers so epic :clap1: also so deserving to see those soldiers shredded to pieces

the chestburster out of Arthur, similarly amazing visual effects as the iconic scene of John Hurt in the first film

Kirsh not being on Kavalier's side, knew it, good on him for having his own agenda

and am curious who Kavalier has in mind to let T.Ocellus take over, i reckon that janitor guy considering he said someone of lower class and lower iq to notice the difference with Ocellus, and someone who Ocellus can use to talk with Kavalier

and i'm curious what is up with the plant alien, they are kinda mysterious about that one so far

that also was Noah's intention, he said so in the podcast

btw sequel to Alien: Romulus confirmed, it is written by Fede Alvarez, but he isn't returning as director, but this was always the plan for the films, pretty sure the new director will be someone chosen by Fede who he thinks is the right one for his script

director Noah Hawley is confident regarding the show's success it might get renewed, he already got some early storyboards, scripts worked out anyway

and he teases regarding a possible season 2 that season will lay the boundaries for even more season possibly, to run parallel next to the film canon

Nicky91

i do hope it getting renewed, and one episode it being directed by Fede Alvarez

i mean both Noah and Fede know how to do this franchise the justice it deserves

and i myself love the xenomorphs aren't just painted as blood thirsty monsters, but going deeper in how they communicate, i always saw them as ''insect alike creatures in terms of lifespan''

like how Bishop explained that in the second film Aliens actually, like Bees, one queen and worker drones

I thought it was a fun series with some interesting allusions, themes and concepts. Didn't think it was a masterpiece or on even footing with the first two movies (and arguably some of the others), but it was definitely a lot of fun and I hope it gets a second series.

Online discourse over the show did annoy me a bit. In their efforts to wave away a lot of the problems with the show's writing, it seemed to me that people online (most probably newbies to the Alien franchise) were trying to drag the first movie down in order to lift this show up. And none of those reasonings carried water. The show doesn't have the first movie's excuse of the character's being basically space truckers who were conned into their alien finding expedition through a very small print that was buried under pages and pages of legalese. The fact that those characters make crucial errors that lead to their deaths is understandable.

But the characters in this show were specifically sought out and employed to go out and find the alien creatures. When you take that on board, the various mistakes that these characters make, that are crucial to the events of the series progressing the way they did, become far more egregious and difficult to excuse. So yeah, a fun series with some interesting things to say. But not a masterpiece. Still, it's only a first series. And who knows how long it could run for. It could very well end up being a great piece of work by the time of the show's finale, providing it gets renewed.

all in all you can call this first season a decent success, so yes i am with Noah, in terms of i feel hopeful for it getting renewed, he already has a plan for a season 2 anyway a conclusion to the first season's cliffhanger, but also giving way for a possible seasons 3 and 4, and the main goal is for this series to run parallel to the films

also the Xenomorph as ''pets'' well tbh if you read the comics, you'd know the xenomorphs are loyal to someone known as Goddess who is a synthetic, so in a way i think Wendy/Marcy is this Goddess

and in terms of the Neverland staff
i can see Kirsh switching sides from Kavalier to the Lost Boys, considering he never meant any harm to them or to the aliens, just interested in the alien creatures as a scientist, unlike Kavalier whom as already youngest trillionaire saw more profit in them

and
i hope it gets renewed, because i want more from Eye Midge, who now is inside Arthur's corpse basically reanimating it, am curious if it now can talk and what it exactly has to say
