Poverty and addiction go hand in glove sadly. In areas of high socio-economic depravation you find this...in Scotland and all over the UK. It's not a new thing.

Meaningless. Drug abuse and social/financial deprivation go hand-in-hand, that's both a proven statistical fact and a frankly fairly obvious observation and there is a massive correlation between families (and entire towns) with generational substance abuse problems and those who were worst affected by the sweeping economic reforms and London-centrism of Thatcher's 80's.

"Plenty of people do X and don't Y" is just a complete nothing of a statement. You might as well say "Plenty of people smoke their whole lives and don't get cancer" or "plenty of fat people don't end up with type 2 diabetes". Both statements are true - but it would still - obviously, I hope - be pretty dumb to say "...therefore smoking has nothing to do with cancer and type 2 diabetes has nothing to do with being overweight".

i note you avoided using your statement about a figure head English political leader being in any way to blame

i wonder why?

...also, being REALLY frank, I think you'll find that if you go into the areas with the REAL deprivation, you're actually wrong and you won't find "plenty" who don't have substance misuse problems. At the very least, alcohol abuse is absolutely rife. We're not talking about your average small town council estates here - we're talking the areas where every second house has metal sheets over the windows. The ones that ambulances won't go into without a police escort because it's unsafe.

Yes absolutely spot on...but there are also one or perhaps two in the more refined and insular small town that a drug death can shake a community to the core.

Sounds like something sturgeon would blame her own incompetence on.

This crisis was in motion long before Sturgeon. Long before the SNP had more than a few seats, in fact.

Yes... do you think that decimating whole cities and industries wont have ramifications for more than a couple of years?
