Nice list Alf.
This will be between Shearer, Lampard, Gerrard, Giggs, Scholes etc. All those players from big clubs who had long Premiership careers. Theres gonna have to be a few Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea players in the top ten. :yuk: Gonna be interesting to see where Aguero comes. He'd have scored over 200 premiership goals if Pep didnt take him off after 60 minutes in every game.
David Silva will be interesting too. Man City are missing him.

Yaya Toure

Looking at the all time stats surprised to see Jermain Defoe scored 162 premiership goals. Didn't think he was that high on the list of top scorers. A premiership legend but would he make many peoples top 40 of all time? Even Peter Crouch and Les Ferdinand have 100 goals. This is going to be tough list to compile Alf, I dont envy you. Whats your criteria?.

Think Henry has to be 1.

Van Dijk is still early in his Premier league career. So not as high as some might like.

That's all the defenders out the way. And now to get rid of the only goalkeeper in the list.

John Terry's low. I'd have had him higher. Possibly the best captain alongside Keane.

I think I would have put Ginola higher, and Gary Neville was part of a great team rather than being a great player.
I think I would have put Ginola higher, and Gary Neville was part of a great team rather than being a great player.Best right back in Premier league history, also the greatest English right back of my lifetime, easily. Add that to his trophy cabinet and Neville has to be in.

I think I would have put Ginola higher, and Gary Neville was part of a great team rather than being a great player.Agree with both. It'll be interesting to see how many players like Neville make it onto the list. I think Shearer has to win this because he never played for a traditional top six club but has set a record that will be difficult to beat. i think Harry Kane will become premiership top scorer it if he stays in England and I think Aguero would have been close if Pep wasnt so harsh on strikers.
John Terry's low. I'd have had him higher. Possibly the best captain alongside Keane.Maybe so, but I was trying to get the defenders out of the way. The attacking players is who everyone wants to see in the top half of the list.

All four of England current right backs are better.Behave. Arnold has the potential to overtake Neville, as long as he continues to keep playing well, but he's got some way to go to take over Neville, yet.

Love the list but baffled about Di Canio's omission??Very good player, he should have joined Manchester United and he'd have likely been on.
I am still getting over no Steve Potts??
:shrug:Frank Lampard made the top five. That's good representation for West Ham.
Anyone think Le Tissier should have been on?

Nice list Alf,
Even as an Arsenal fan I wouldn't have had Henry top. Probably not even top three if I'm honest. I remember his first two seasons where he was very wasteful with chances.
I agreed more with the other list TBH. I think you've missed a few. Le Tissier is a glaring omission for me. To score 100 goals from midfield in such a short space of time. Gareth Barry is the other one I'd have had in. He's made the most appearances. I think if I made a list it would be more about great players who didnt play for Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool etc. and then we get to players like Gary Speed, Di Canio, Defoe, Le Tissier, Barry etc

Anyone think Le Tissier should have been on?
He’d be in my top three with Hoddle and Jay-Jay Okocha ... guess Hoddle was pre-premier league ..
Edit ... I guess you could open the new threads to any era not just the Premier League time period .

I'll do Post war players. That would leave out a great pre war player called Alex James. James was one of the star players of the Arsenal side that dominated English football in the 1930's (Arsenal's Golden period) He was also England legend, Sir Tom Finney's footballing hero.
There won't be too many modern players in the list, maybe one or two, but Scotland just haven't been producing the World class players in more modern times, like they used too.
