do (more distant) cousins become nothing more than “people [you] share blood with?” Would you classify anyone traceably related to you as kin or is there a certain limit?

Straight after first.

if you go past first cousin then you literally find people who arm robbed a petrol station and also a porn star who lives in malibu. So it best to keep the family small

Depends how much you know them.

Distant cousins I've never met are just strangers.

Great-grandma's sister married great-grandad's brother, so everyone's twice as related as we should be :D well by my generation that's not as applicable, but still.
