View Full Version : Alf's top 40 Scottish football players (for Zizu)
I promised Zizu I would do this, so here it is.
Scotland don't produce as many good players as they used to but I have tried to put a few modern players or players you may have heard of or seen in the past in there. A few oldies in there too.
So get out the Irn bru do yourself a plate of mince and tatties and enjoy.
i do hope the likes of Ally, Boydy, Bazza Ferguson, Sandy Jardine and Davie Cooper will be in this list

Also a kelso cricket club 1st team player for one season.

No Craig Gordon then...the 9 million pound signing.
I had this out with goram one night in a pub as well, his reckoning to be better than craig was the fact he played for man utd.

Great player , one I should have mentioned actually.
I know his brother George vaguely- a decent winger who played for Aberdeen and Bury .. . he was actually at Man United for a while but they had a guy called Best on one wing and Willie Morgan ( I think ) on the other so he wasn’t getting too many games :)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProLe Tiss - Technically a genius, couldn't tackle, couldn't head, lazy as they come, speed of a tortoise. Probably not.
Gazza - Of course. Genius wise, he'll probably make the top 3, career wise, he'd probably feature lower down. He hindered his career big time in the 91 FA Cup final, he never came back the same player, he lost that yard of pace.
Same thing happened with Michael Owen. From the age of 17 - 22 he was the best player in the World for me. Then when he got a bad injury and lost his biggest weapon, his pace, he was finished.
Waddle - I've played against him, legend.
Grealish - Too early for him.

He'd make far more bone crunching tackles, he'd score far more goals, he'd put his heart and soul into everything and give you 100 percent and he'd run his blood to water and cover every blade of grass on the pitch.

As did craig Gordon, yet alf thinks the fat goalie goram was more deserving.
2 broken legs, 2 broken arms, and still, at the rope old age of 39 is making a comeback at hearts after a double leg break 12 months ago and for scotland at the euros.

Robson was the best English footballer full stop of the 1980's and nobody could make an argument against that. It's impossible.
Even Paul Gascoigne would and has said that Robson was the best player he ever played with. Gazza gave Robson the nickname "dogsh!t" because he was everywhere. That comes from a time where dogsh!t was everywhere.

If I do do a Best English players countdown, you will be disappointed that not many players of your lifetimes feature highly. England just haven't produced the talents over the past 40 years like they used to. A bit like Scotland really.
The top ten will likely be filled with players from the 50s and 60s. I probably couldn't even put Gascoigne or Rooney in the top 10.
