James Corden getting a nom

Yikes

It's awful, he played a straight up offensive caricature of a gay person. It's gross that the Globes are endorsing him with a nomination,

I hope Promising Young Woman gets the win for everything it's nominated for, it's a sensational film. I hope Chadwick Boseman gets the best actor nod.

two separate locations, New York and Los Angeles,
for the first time this year,

I think I'm the only one who doesn't find The Crown very good?

Like the production values are amazing, the actors are good, but it just doesn't work as a drama series.

That list is also the exact same names they nominate every year. So boring.

Surprised The Flight Attendant is nominated, the trailer made it look quite cheap. I'll have to check it out.

mhmm some of the best television I have ever watched, shocking.

The fact that Ma Rainey isn’t nommed in the Best Drama category (despite all of the other noms it’s had I know) is a bit shocking. It’s brilliant - definitely deserved its own nomination as an overall piece of film.

Lovecraft Country

Wait, that show actually exists? :joker:

I saw the poster and heard "from the showrunner for the awful recent Twilight Zone, a black guy travels across Crow-era America and encounters Lovecraftian horrors" ... it just sounds like a joke tbh

TBF I find it good but mainly BECAUSE of the acting and production values, which I can appreciate on their own. I thought the drama was quite compelling in the earlier seasons but it's jumped the shark a bit now and seems to be trying to "out-grim" itself. Like you can show the bad aspects without making it seem unrealistically miserable 100% of the time.

Yeah, it's perfectly watchable but it's now just like a clip reel of stories you remember in the news, rather than a particularly well put together drama series about the Royal Family.

The first season was probably the best in that regard.

In what ways is that premise a 'joke', Oliver?

It just sounds so silly, who on earth decided to combine Jim Crow with Lovecraft of all things? And if the Twilight Zone is anything to go by, Jordan Peele's strengths don't lie in TV series.

And the poster looks like someone made it in GIMP in like ten minutes.

It doesn't sound so silly to me, it sounds like most supernatural shows with the main difference being that this has ties to the Jim Crow era. We've had supernatural shows take place at a variety of times, what makes Jim Crow such a joke, or too ridiculous?

It looks like a typical network TV poster to me.

[It's hard to believe it's been a full year since the
last Golden Globes," said Ben Stiller as he took to
the stage to present the award for best actress
in a musical or comedy.
"But, like many of us, I've used that time to look
inward and grow. I've come to fully understand the
nature of crypto-currency.
I read a book. I finally got around to dying my hair grey."

It turns out the actor's biggest lockdown achievement,
however, has been sculpting awards trophies out of cake.
"Like so many other resilient Americans,
I learned to bake. A delicious banana bread,
in the form of a Golden Globe."]
