Savages tbh

Unless you are having gravy on the chips. Then, just salt, or nothing.

Just salt. Salt enhances the flavour, vinegar just ruins the taste and texture of chips by making them too soft

I'm flabbergasted so far

I feel like that would be vile. But cannot eat cheese so dont know!

My husband puts tomato sauce, and vinegar on gravy and chips though and it makes me feel ill. He also will put ketchup on sundays dinners man...just..what a freak!

That sounds potentially ok actualy. I love vinegar. I could drink it on its own in small amounts tbh, and did as a kid. Never have as an adult though..as I know its Very Bad!

The smell of vinegar makes me feel sick. Just salt is fine for me.

...if I’m eating them outdoors at the coast, I’ll put vinegar on for some reason...but other than that, what you said, Daniel...I can’t take the smell...

...back in the day of lunchtime staff rooms filled with humans...the two things that would make me leave and eat my lunch outside were vinegar usage and tinned sardine eating....

If it's fish and chips I'll get salt and vinegar and then salt and vinegarise it again when I get home....with ketchup on the side..
If it's skinny fries then salt only...
I don't get the whole mayo with chips thing...that's just madness

My grandma used to do this. Only ever when at the coast, smother her food (always fish and chips) in salt and vinegar. Yet apparently she hated vinegar but it tastes different at the beach?! :D

...i guess for me that it’s not so much that it tastes different but more that I really can’t cope with the smell and also how long it stays if it’s confined indoors...somehow on the coast and with a sea breeze, which their tends to be ...it just takes it all away, carries it straight out to sea....I rarely eat fish and chips tbh but this thread has evoked a craving for them...
