Honestly, why do the judges lap up Ellie Diamond's poor runways?

That seagull's gonna give me nightmares.

God Ru was SAVAGE with the critiques, I don’t think he’s ever been that pissed before (accept maybe during the shakesqueer challenge?) :skull:

Ru and Michelle’s critiques really irked me this week with the ‘we don’t want clothes you can buy off the rack!’ screams. They kept telling the queens they’ve had time off to elevate their drag. It seemed in even worse taste to me when the queens had only just been discussing loss of revenue because of no work. Not everyone has **** of loads of money or is a highly skilled seamstress.

Also, I agree with Braden re: Ellie’s seagull look. That was HORRIBLE. The judges just lapped it up cos it was conceptual and not ‘H&M’.

Otherwise it was a pretty good episode! The United Kingdolls were all great and well deserved winners, although I would’ve probably just given Tayce/Bimini a joint win on this one as they stood out the most for me. It was sad seeing Joe go so soon again but he was comfortably the worst by far in the challenge.

Lawrence was better this week, I don’t actually dislike him it’s just the overly favourable edit and the judges eating EVERYTHING she does up.

Sister Sister is *really* rubbing me the wrong way. When other queens have confirmed A’Whora’s claims that she stole the outfit idea it made her look even worse :umm2:. She’s devoid of any personality and when it is shown, it’s nasty. Get her out ASAP.

Rankings:

1. A’Whora
2. Tayce
3. Bimini
4. Tia
5. Ellie
6. Lawrence
7. Sister Sister

1. Asttina
2. Veronica
3. Cherry
4. Joe
5. Ginny

It was a weird episode and I didn't find it entertaining, really.

The judging was all over the place, Ellie was poor in the challenge yet gets saved by a good look, but Joe doesn't? (He deserved bottom two, undeniably, but he had one of the best looks of the night). You also had the issue of Tia doing well at the challenge and then seemingly ending up in the bottom based on her runway which is odd. I personally think the bottom two should have been Ellie and Joe because Ellie's look was interesting on paper but it just looked cheap when it could have been better if she painted her face rather than stick feathers over it.

Rupaul's outburst was in poor taste, really, plus it was really hypocritical considering how much she ate up Astina's ASOS look in the first week. It was basically a millionaire yelling at people who have been out of work for seven months to make their outfits look more expensive. It was gross, misjudged and just lacked empathy considering most of them spoke about not being able to work consistently, if at all. She tried to pull a Tyra Banks and ended up looking like Ellen Degeneres really.

Hmm...

Following up Break Up (Bye Bye) was always going to be an impossible task so as such the song was a bit of a dud for me. It was catchy and everything but I don't see it hitting the charts any time soon

Sad to not see Veronica come back, but then at the same time she was being a colossal dick at the start of this episode by claiming she was nowhere near the bottom two (she SUCKED in the previous challenge, what part of this is up for debate babe?) so I'm kinda glad to see the back of her. Hopefully COVID brought her a brush of humility. I'm also a little bummed out that we got the predictable "first girl eliminated gets another chance!!!" storyline because it... never works out well, and Asttina literally had a Ru Peter badge under her belt and deserved to come back :inamood: I do like Joe a little bit but his drag is just so... one note, that it gets boring quick. I'm sure I'd love to see her perform... but only if there are other acts on the bill and they aren't all doing Vaudeville, cabaret acts.

I am... still baffled as to why Sister Sister is still here. She. Serves. NOTHING. And she's a mardy ****ing arsehole to boot. I don't buy the "I didn't see A'whora's massive ****ing chip bag costume" act at all. She tried to one-up a girl because she felt insecure about her first idea and she flopped at it. And I'm sorry, but new teeth and a haircut from a ****ing toddler aren't going to make her interesting.

I'm also baffled as to why this was a group win other than "because it was last time". In Season 1, Blu Hydrangea ended up with an undeserved win and this time it's Lawrence and A'Whora. Don't get me wrong, I'm content that Bimini and A'Whora are finally in the game (because they've been robbed in previous weeks) but... this episode was a Tayce masterclass. Best performance, best verse, and incredibly gorgeous runway.

My rankings for this episode...

Winner: Tayce
High: Bimini & A'Whora
Safe: Lawrence & Tia
Low: Ellie
Bottom: Sister & Joe

Not going to bother to try and delve into the mind of RuPaul... she's a corporate ghoul with absolutely no empathy and this has been documented for years. I'm waiting for the day it can be Bob's Drag Race, because Ru is just... a soulless, cold, fake, shill of a person.

TBH Ru's outbursts were shocking, but they were understandable.

Imagine having to fly back to the UK and sit in a hotel for 2 weeks (she probably had no interest in coming back to the uk and was only there because she has a contractual duty to do so).
Then when you are finally released you have some silly little old dried up drag queen gloating about wearing something from H&M on the main stage, putting literally no effort in.
I'd be fuming.
I'd be like, what is the point!!!

I'm actually surprised she came back to the UK, I was 99% sure the rest of the season would have been done with Ru on a screen.

We already talked about Ru looking down on the queens, specifically the "off the rack" comments, so really I don't have anything to add.
I'm disappointed, because even if Joe did glitter her dress, she still would have been read. I'm mad because drag at its core is not having a full team of designers to make costumes for you or having a family that can support your drag.
And as Dezzy said, it was in poor taste considering the queens couldn't even work in the meantime and probably already don't have strong financial means.
Time for Bob and Bianca to take over, at least let them take over the foreign versions and keep Ru for the polished US version where she can judge working designers rather than the queens.

It was Tayce's week, though I don't mind the joint win because the team did well. But Tayce did better in the challenge and on the runway.

Don't know what to make of Sister Sister, I wish she was sent home so we could see more of Joe, but in fairness she did better than Joe. I don't get Tia in the bottom 2, she didn't do bad.

Im sorry but drag is not and never has been about buying a dress from primark or h&M. Thats just being a transvestite.

Ru is right to be like WTF.

I would like to know the difference in price between ellies dress in the performance compared to the H&M dress. because i really dont think its necessarily about money.
Drag can be done well on a budget.

It is honestly like turning up to great british bake off with a pack of mr kiplings, what is the point?

You're saying Drag can be done on a budget but can't be bought from H&M. So basically where can it be brought from? Gucci? Louis Vuitton?

And yes, Drag is originally done on a budget and from non-high end stores. But that doesn't prevent people from doing it right. You can still customize it, glitter it or whatever. I mean, watch seasons 1 to 7/8 and how the queens looked.
But at its core, it's not fashion houses working for you to go on Drag Race.

It's the way Ru said it because it could have been said in many different ways rather than putting down girls who buy things from H&M. Because that's how it comes across. And tbh Joe's and Tia's looks were not horrible nor deserved that level of hate

Go to a fabric shop.
Ru's tone wasnt correct, but she did apologise and put it down to the quarentina, which i think is a reasonable explanation.

In the rare exception that you really cannot learn to sew, then maybe you could buy from H&M and buy something as a base and then modify it or glitter the **** out of it as Ru said.

How can anyone think it acceptable to go to H&M and then wear it on TV as is? I've seen people on Judge Rinder make more effort to present themselves.

...I did like the song......I thought that the right group won as well, they just looked a bit more polished...

...I don’t know with Ru, what to say...she was just horrid and it felt as though Michelle kind of set that up for her to say and that neither of them had wanted Joe back....so Ru was overly critical to the point of being cruel and determined for her to go again, the whole thing was just uncomfortable ...and then in the workroom, the girls were all defending Ru and saying she was right but she wasn’t right to speak to Joe like that and to infer that she wasn’t a Queen enough to be with the ‘best’ on Ru’s show ...Ru often feels quite critical and detached from the girls when they’re her girls looking for and hoping for support and adoring her up high on the pedestal they’ve placed her on...but there doesn’t always feel any warmth given back...her lips move in all of the right directions in some things she says but her heart is not always to be found in the room...

...anyways, I loved Tayce and Bimini’s runway and loved Ahora’s bag of chips...I love Tia so wanted to love her runway as well but it just wasn’t stand out in any way for me...Joe’s was a sensational sea breeze and Lorrrrrrence Chayhunni was stunning as well...Ellie’s seagull was quite scary...I think that there should be a list of what should never be dragged and seagulls right there at the top as #1....I mean as a seagull accessory on an outfit, yes...but an actual seagull....Ellie my love....no....

...Joe Black......in H&M or Chanel, a gracious and stylish and gorgeous Queen...

I'm glad so many of you thought Ru was awful for how she spoke to Joe about the dress. I totally get it wasn't a great choice but after hearing that the whole cast were basically out of work at the moment and obviously struggling it was really tone deaf.

I really don't get the judging either, so yes Joe was pretty bad in the challenge but that runway look was so good and absolutely hilarious but she was bottom 2 yet Ellie was basic in the challenge and that seagull outfit was a costume not drag yet Ellie was saved?

Tia was great in the lip sync though, she had me cackling at the end with the last second death drop

Should've just gone down the old school route and asked MIchelle to pick a returning Queen, since Cherry and especially Asttina might have had a better chance.

Given Ru's face when Joe first stepped out for the challenge, I think he just doesn't like him and hasn't from the start. There was no way Joe was progressing to the next week.

...that’s what I think as well, that Joe had already been chosen to be the one to go...Michelle had barely begun to speak when Ru’s face completely changed to a huge thunderous angry look...and do we know that she doesn’t see the outfits in rehearsals and isn’t familiar with them, that surely would have been the time to say sparkle that baby up and guide, rather than scream..to scream at one of ‘her’ girls in that way for any reason is awful enough...?...but to scream that one is being cheap when no one has been able to work/have any income for months and probably wasn’t expecting to come back to the show a little while earlier is just so unfeeling ...and then they all went back to the werkroom and still they praised her, it leaves such a bad vibe with me....

...and also...when we see the behaviour of some of the US girls, to the point of behaving bullyish and mean and no screaming at them for that awful behaviour that is representing a Ru Paul Queen ....that ‘top queens’ are not worthy of that behaviour towards any Queen of hers, but she’ll make someone feel pretty low for doing the best they can with the finances they have...and maybe got it wrong...?...but the worst Joe did was to try an understated look that didn’t work out how she’d hoped and her look on the runway made up for anyway and was one of the best...there seemed to me a determination of already having been decided that Ru would over-focus on that one little thing and less on her performance in the Eurovision....

...when Joe did iconic Bowie look and did it so perfectly, she was all wrong apparently and was sent home...and now with this, she’s all wrong apparently and is sent home...it really does feel it’s all personal and Ru isn’t worthy to be deciding the ‘top queens’....

...I hope that Joe gets a lifetime of free H&M clothing for bringing so much gracious and style to their clothing.......

I don't understand the "lost their jobs in the lockdown" because don't they prepare all of their outfits prior to the start of the season?

Did they lose what they already had over lockdown?

Shaun
14-02-2021, 05:35 PM
It's feasible that Joe may have borrowed some outfits from fellow drag friends and returned them upon his elimination... unless he met up with them again during lockdown it's possible he went back into the competition with a lighter load. Plus I've heard cases of queens - even really famous ones - having to auction off outfits on eBay to make ends meet.

Not to mention the fact that Asttina, Joe and Cherry will have been called back into the game with a 1-in-3 chance of returning... so you could understand if they weren't really willing to make the same expenses if they had a 2/3 chance of just going straight home without showing any of them again.

Ammi
15-02-2021, 05:27 AM
...do the Queens also hire costumes/outfits...which would create quite an expense and without much income she wouldn’t have been able to hire again when the show returned...

Ammi
15-02-2021, 05:37 AM
...anyways, she just showed a complete dismissive ness and lacking of any thought for someone who she would have once been herself and struggled to create a real earning ...I didn’t get the feeling that she liked Joe and had sent her home once and wasn’t going to have her back...but even then and even that Joe’s frock wasn’t great...but she didn’t have to be unkind, she could have sent Joe home again saying, oh hun, really...?...I hate to do this again straight away but it just didn’t rise to the other girls etc....she didn’t have to scream that she thought Joe was in some way just not good enough and completely strip her apart...

Ammi
15-02-2021, 05:39 AM
...she’d probably read all of the comments about Michelle not having any idea of iconic Bowie and took it all out on Joe in a revenge attack...

I read that Joe had to sell a lot of his outfits in the lockdown. I don't think he thought he would have been brought back.

I know with the US edition there are now some quite high-profile designers (Kahmora Hall boasted about her gowns being Bob Mackie)... I don't know if the UK queens will ever go to that extreme, what with there being no prize money, because it's a huge gamble and no one's really had the time to make $$$ from the UK edition yet (just 4 or 5 months of touring for the S1 girls). Ironically the two who seem to be appearing on Celeb reality shows are probably the two that had the weakest runway looks (Cheryl and Baga).

But in the case of hiring I'd imagine most designers would want the exposure of having their outfits shown on TV and social media, so wouldn't really make the garment and then go "...nah you took too long, I want it back thanks x"
