Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital, Buckingham Palace has said.

The palace said Philip, 99, went into hospital on the advice of his doctor on Tuesday evening.

The palace explained in a note: "The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell.

"The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest."

Philip is in the King Edward VII Hospital in London and is said to be in "good spirits".

Prince Philip has been living in Windsor Castle for several months, following a brief stay in his usual home at Wood Farm in Sandringham last summer.

He retired from royal duties in 2017 at the age of 95, and moved to Norfolk where he keeps up with his patronages and paints.

he has been in hospital a few times where I have thought, oh that doesn't sound good and a few days later he is back home. Hope this is the same

...because of his age and obviously who he is, I think he’ll always have close observation if he’s feeling unwell...so any medical care can be applied quickly if needed...

Must be great to be able to go into hospital for proper treatment when you feel a bit ill tbh. Meanwhile, the plebs are told that if chest infection starts making you cough up bright green stuff, then go to hospital, if not, then suffer at home as the doctors want nowt to do with it D:

I hope hes ok. But this kind of thing angers me a bit sometimes.

Its a private hospital.

Pay the money and you can get treatment also.

That's a big part of how you get to live to be 99, I would imagine.

He's felt unwell, he's in for observation.

I hope he will be okay.
He's had hospital stays before, obviously caution will be taken due to his status and age.

Oh me too Vicky ,my daughters elderly neighbour was found yesterday sitting in his chair not having to be able to move for 2 days ! In complete agony and a basket full of blood filled tissues ! He had a tumor on his kidney diagnosed a few months ago and was due another scan but no appointment came and we've found out that 3 calls to his doctor only resulted in 3 lots of painkillers each stronger than last. He was taken to hosptal and is now on dialysis and we are all hoping and praying he'll come home from this , also has not had his jab as he's been ignored and to unwell to go. so added dread of catching covid in hospital as many others have done.

So yes lucky Prince Philip.

Thats really awful, but not surprising really. It was bad beforehand, but now its just constant 'but covid' as an excuse not to treat ill people.

Did he have anyone going in on regular basis, that is so sad

I keep trying to get my aunt to wear one of those alert buttons, but she is resisting, saying she has her mobile, but she doesn't walk around with it glued to her hip but there is no talking to her

Yes they had been ringing and texting him but were afraid to use key without families permission so called his niece , my daughter has been doing shopping for him and found 6 loaves of unopened bread gone mouldy ! so he's not been coping and saying he was alright to everyone . The ambulance guys told him he will need help and at least he agreed , just gotta hope he comes home.
He's such a lovely man he's done shopping for lots of older people in community for years.
