The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has drowned in a lake near his holiday home in Brazil.

Jose Becker, 57, had been swimming at a dam on his property when the accident happened. Local police say that no foul play was suspected.

Brazilian club Fluminense, where Alisson's brother Muriel is a goalkeeper, posted on social media that it was deeply sorry for the death of Mr Becker.

The club tweeted: 'The Fluminense Football Club deeply regrets the death of Jose Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Muriel and Alisson..

'We wish all friends and family all the strength.'

Internacional, where both Alisson and Muriel played, also offered condolences.

Alisson played at Internacional between 2013 and 2016 before he joined Roma. He left Italy after two seasons to join Liverpool.

I don't understand how airports are still open though but things like a parents funerals aren't counted as essential travel? What is essential travel then?

I would have thought exemptions would be made for funerals, maybe Germany don't allow people in from UK due to variant or something?

I don't know. I have no idea what's going on anymore. We were supposed to be going to London actually in June for Gav's cousins wedding and he messaged asking if we were still going, last night. How do you even find out what is and isn't allowed and when etc. I presume we won't be able to go.

Yes that sounds right given he’s a remarkably shy , modest guy .

It will depend on your travel restrictions, I don't think the UK have any on the Republic due to the common travel area, but you might have to self isolate on return to Ireland? If his wedding is after 21st June there should be no restrictions here if all goes to plan of course.....

I doubt it's going to be worth the hassle tbh, I think we'd have to isolate even if we were allowed to travel, plus we're not going to have any updates on easing of restrictions till after the start of April anyway

you would probably have to take covid tests as well, I feel sorry for him, did he postpone last year, I would be inclined to postpose if I were in his shoes

Hopefully they're both doing okay given the circumstances.
