...it’s the whole royal institution that she refers to as ‘the firm’, which I think Prince Philip was the one to first use that expression...so maybe widely used within the royal family...

Actually a good point.
I just say again, the whole set up needs massive reforming.
It actually seems to have got worse in the near 70 year reign of this Queen.
When it should have been all change from the start of her reign.
Yes though, the hierarchy of the Palace and Royal set up, not just the Royals themselves, is I think a cause for concern as to the measures they will enact and go to.

I think because Meghan receives the brunt of all the slander from the media and online trolls, as well as the royal family, it’s understandable why people would want to hear her side of the story. Yh I always got the sense of Diana being very caring and motherly and as you say, having that much more closer attachment to her children, i think that was definitely a key part of what separated her a little bit more than the other royal family members.

I'm glad I am watching this.
While a Monarchist, I have felt a long time the hierarchy of the Palace, the institution as it's termed here.
Is a shocking set up.
As to Prince Charles, he used Diana.
Had Charles really loved Diana, this could have happened then.
However he is heir to the throne,so it couldn't, also though I'd say he probably really never loved Diana at all.
She was just used for legitimate heirs.

Actually a very endearing interview.
Prince Harry showed both the hurt he feels at the failure of the Royal institution, plus I sense from his rather cold Father too.
Prince William wouldn't dare seem to support Prince Harry either being the more like programmed heir to the throne, because quite frankly, the public would probably prefer Prince Charles NOT to be the next King but to hand it on to Prince William.
They're genuine togetherness and affection, showed through and was refreshing to see.

...(hopefully...)...this will all mark the way for a better future for those within the royal family and royal establishment for William and Kate and their children and as the generations go down...Harry and Meghan and Harry in particular have now made that change that he wanted to see ...and that future royals will benefit from....

It's a shame Charles never respected and protected Diana like Harry does Meghan.
She'd still be with us :(
He used her for children that's a known fact and she was pretty much forced into a 2nd with him

Who ever it was who made the comment about Archies complexion? We need to know who that was. That needs to be cleaned up quick. Probably throw Pedo Andrew under the bus. He's already got enough dirt on him he can cop for this too.

I'm afraid that isn't correct. It's untrue
Some media claimed the erratic behaviour of paparazzi following the car, as reported by the BBC, had contributed to the crash.[2] In 1999, a French investigation found that Paul, who lost control of the vehicle at high speed while intoxicated by alcohol and under the effects of prescription drugs, was solely responsible for the crash. He was the deputy head of security at the Hôtel Ritz and had earlier goaded paparazzi waiting for Diana and Fayed outside the hotel.[3] Anti-depressants and traces of an anti-psychotic in his blood may have worsened Paul's inebriation.

Other than the queen the whole royal family seem quite cold and unloving to me.
I just finished watching the whole interview , and i agree completely .
There's this very cold and stiff behaviour , and it's very sad as you can see that Harry feels let down by both his father & brother to a degree. Where was the support that they needed.
The royal firm /institution sounds very callous and toxic , sounds like utter hell what Meghan went through . And it seems other members of the royal family are happy to play the "role" and smile for the cameras like a robotic image. Not allowed to be too outspoken either .
And i don't care what anyone says the remark about Archie's
'skin complexion' clearly had a racist undertone to it , nobody was a fly on the wall. Harry didn't want to go into the details of that conversation, but you can tell it made him uncomfortable and he was taken aback by the comment made.
And i truly believe Meghan and Harry made the right decision by moving away and stepping back , especially for their mental health. It's gut wrenching to think Meghan actually contemplated suicide , she didn't deserve the hate she received.

Definitely and for their mental health too.
The problem there was as she said, she felt a need to maybe be somewhere to have her mental health concerns addressed.
She and indeed it's likely, the rest of the Royals are not under the disgraceful restrictive rules of the Royal set up.
Allowed to independently get that help.
It also seems despite Princes William and Harry's mental health highlighting.
They haven't been able to ensure the support is there within the Royal institution.
So there's no support from the Royal institution and neither can they independently go off to get outside help, due to the royal restrictions.
That shows the Royal institution for the outdated, cruel and totally wrong place and people it is.
Good, strong reasoned post from you GoldHeart
I felt they were sincere and they've lifted the lid off something as to the Royal institution, which needed to be done.
They aren't the first to highlight problems of no support within the Royal mess that it is.
The hierarchy of the Palace staffing as to the institution too..
They'll see mental health as weakness.
As others do, then you'll have those who don't like these 2, who will just dismiss their mental health concerns..
As many do with ordinary people too.
A total lack of compassion..
They can't be reasoned with so there's no point in trying.
Because attitudes to mental health are still shocking in society from uncaring people who just see it as weakness or excuses.
That's disgusting.
If Prince William and Kate are REALLY serious about mental health issues.
Well it looks like they need to start on the home front and do what this current Monarch hasn't done in nearly 70 years..
To get set up proper and trained mental health support for Royals feeling it.
OR allow them to go and get the independent help they may need.
Which Royal protocol clearly seems to forbid, in this day and age.
Those who scoff at mental health and the people who say they are feeling it and have fears.
Are not worth wasting time on.
Mental health is still a joke to some.
For all individuals.
In the Royal institution, it seems it's preferred to ignore it.
Shocking.
Plus, of course it's a racist orientated comment.
Re Archie's likely skin colour..
Further evidence of the truly rotten attitude and prejudice that flowed from the person who said it.
Whoever it is who said that, needs naming.
Disgraceful.
No wonder they got out, well done to them.
I've always just wished them well, I'm glad they gave us these revelations of what should be the most sinister of the Royal set up.
My Mother recalled when Prince Edward was in the forces, he struggled and was upset, not able to seemingly cope with it.
He was described as being a wimp and softie and had to do it out of duty.
It seems nothing's changed as to the Royal institution's hard and cruel insensitive regime.

I did think they might have wished Phillip well.
She wasn't there to challenge them.
This was a long planned vehicle for them to tell their story.
It wasn't a debate.
She did push, she pushed to get to the root of the lack of support for their mental health issues
She pushed to find out who made the racist comment..
To both Meghan and Prince Harry.
Prince Harry himself who it was said to, refused to identify as did Meghan.
If you were doing an interview, where you were presenting your side of an issue .
Would you expect to be challenged by the person you'd agreed to tell it to.
As for Prince Philip,Prince Harry indicated with James Corden, he still talked with him.
When was this recorded, would they even have known Prince Philip was still in hospital.
It wasn't a live interview.
However, my point, if I'd agreed to tell my story of why I'd taken some move in my life and what were the things that shaped that move..
I wouldn't expect in that chat, to have challenges to it from someone who themselves had no real.knowkedge of the internal set up.
Which both Prince Harry and Meghan certainly have.
I've had the opposite to you, I've had people wishing they'd talked more and Oprah less.

Yes.
It was also the programme they agreed to in order to present their side of their decision and why they made it.
It is clear on the vile headlines of the press and the comparisons of her with Kate.
That their claims against the press are justified.
As a court has just so ruled.
Only they know the full Royal set up of the institution they highlighted and how bad it became for them.
Of course the Palace won't accept that account, it's all shrouded in mystery.
I was only 5 when Princess Diana died, however it seems to me, the same dark, sinister and cold institution it was when she was in the Royal machinery.
Hasn't altered at all.
Nothing changed, nothing learned or dealt with.
So I too can support the view they were genuine in this interview.
I see no reason for them not to be.
After all they walked off once it reached for them a more dangerous level.
Plus it was a fully born and bred Royal too who forcefully was presenting and confirming what Meghan had indicated.
Namely Prince Harry himself.
He lived through the trauma of his Mother's death as a child, he must feel traumatised that he was then witnessing his chosen wife, heading into danger as his Mother did.
It's staggering to think the Palace wouldn't have made sure that could never have been the case.
