The Green Party peer has said men should be legally banned from leaving their house at 6pm ti make women feel safer and cut down on discrimination.

The only problem is it is discrimination to to treat someone else then others and therefore she has contradicted herself and also to make the assumption that all men will attack women is a disgusting view to have.

It was probably in retaliation to women being told not to go out at night to keep safe but this wasn't a legal requirement so not like for like anyway.

I think she is just highlighting what life is like for women, as we see from the recent sad case we can't even walk home at a reasonably early time of night without fear of being raped or murdered

As sad as it is not only women have that risk

You think only women get murdered? What a dangerous opinion to have

I think the point is the attackers are almost always men

But why punish all men for what a small percentage is doing?

I never said I agreed with her, of course you can't give people a curfew (I say that in the middle of Lock Down lol) but you know what I mean.

Whether the target is a man or a woman, the attacker is nearly always a man. Sure, women can certainly rape people, we had a thread about it not long ago, but if you're out and about and you're gonna get attacked and sexually assaulted, it will nearly always be a man doing it.

I generally agree with the consensus that Jones was merely highlighting a point, rather than seriously suggesting a curfew for men.

It's not a serious suggestion - some guy at the Met Police suggested that women should have "a curfew" for their own protection... which would be an outrageous suggestion from a layperson let alone a police representative... and so (understandably) many women are saying "ERR hold on how about MEN stay home and then we can go out safely".

1) they're not suggesting that "all men are" anything, the point is that the vast majority of attacks are committed by men and, obviously, you don't know who is a danger until it happens.

2) It's sarcasm not a serious suggestion, obviously NO ONE should be placed under curfew ffs.

They are at higher risk of being attacked randomly and of coming to significant harm though and you have to acknowledge that.

Stats show that men are more likely to be assaulted overall than women, BUT that takes into account assaults occurring between people who are known to each other and assaults that have occurred after verbal escalation (in short, angry drunks picking fights). When it is strangers and random it tends to be muggings (these days, they want your phone). If we're talking about people simply minding their own business, assaults on women are FAR higher.

And either way 99% of the people doing the attacking are men. Again, this is not to be confused with "99% of men are attacking people". But that's not the point.

Ahh that makes sense then as to why she suggested that. Bit rich of a Policeman to suggest women have a curfew when it looks like it was one of his own who was the danger this time

I think the last time similar was seriously suggested was back in the Yorkshire Ripper days, you'd have thought we'd have moved on a bit by now.

i was in Sunderland at the time of the yorkshire ripper and it was very jumpy. Every male was under suspicion, all because someone from the area made a hoax call to the police
