View Full Version : Centene: Takeover of 49 UK GP services
Havent seen much (any really) of this on the News tbh.
I did mention in one of the 'leading' media story threads the other day that whenever a story is getting pushed so much with the media I always wonder what they arent making public.
Anyway...
Opinions on this?

...I don’t know, I’m just reading about them atm...one of the surgeries bought by them in Camden Road has already closed down when the lease ran out...and they often don’t appear to employ permanent GP’s...but more operate with locums....

Yes its going to be a Problem.

[The London group of
National Health Service (England) (NHS) medical
practices AT Medics was taken
over by Operose Health, a UK subsidiary
of Centene Corp, in early 2021, creating
the largest private supplier of
GP services in the UK,
with 58 practices covering
half a million patients.
A coalition of doctors,
campaigners and academics wrote to
health secretary Matt Hancock
requesting an investigation by
the Care Quality Commission.
Campaigners spoke
of "privatisation of the NHS by stealth".]
A UK Doctor need's to tell
us what the changes are.
Government must halt 'stealth privatisation' of dozens of GP practices, warns Labour...
Labour has urged the government to halt the 'stealth privatisation' of dozens of GP practices taken over by a US health insurance company that now provides general practice for 500,000 NHS patients.

I don’t really understand what is going on
Operose confirmed the change of control, saying: “The care that we deliver to our patients and the services accessed through our surgeries will not change. We have followed all the required regulatory procedures, including obtaining consent from our CCGs. As a provider of NHS services, care remains free at the point of delivery. In addition, and as with all other GP services throughout the country, we will continue to be regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission.”
Where will they make their money?
they will make their money the same as doctor practices do now, by charging the NHS. I'm not very happy about this at all, but i wasnt happy when doctors surgeries became responsible for their own budgets either. To me it goes against what the NHS is supposed to be
