WHY IS BILL BURR CANCELLED?

Bill was chosen as the presenter for various categories in the award show. He
decided to joke about the lockdown and went on to present the Best
Regional Mexican Music Award.

Singer Natalia Lafourcad had won in this category, but Bill found it hard to
pronounce her last name. “I can’t say this name. And the Grammy goes to
Natalia Lafourcade. I will accept on behalf of her. If I butchered her name,
I’m sorry. Natalia, you won. That’s it,” he said.

The comedian went on to call for trouble once again while presenting the
Best Tropical Latin Album category. Before announcing the winner he joked,
“The feminists are going nuts, ‘Why is this cis-white male doing all this
Latino stuff.'”

Well I'm in a bizarre halfway situation here where I would happily see Bill Burr fired into the sun but at the same time - and god ****ing damn this for being true - I agreed with more than half of that YouTube video :bawling:. He's really difficult to listen to, don't get me wrong, and I question his motives :suspect: but much of the actual content I just can't argue against.

But then I find myself in this political no-man's land an awful lot these days. I'm not a white gammon conservative, but I'm sure as **** not a current-wave progressive either.

Look at the Russell Brand/Jonathan Ross situation from years ago, that was a broadcast that didn't create much of a backlash when it aired, only when the media reported on it in a way that inflamed the situation to what it became, they basically created a whole storyline from it except things are worse now, since you only need one or two tweets to be like 'Crazy leftists are outraged! The right wing swallow it up, when wiser people would question the validity of the story. As long as it appeals to their confirmation bias though, the right wing doesn't care about the validity of stories, just that they tell them what they want to hear.

Do I think "both sides are as bad as each other"? No, absolutely not, the dangers of rampant right-wing ideology can't really be overstated.

However are there absolutely MASSIVE issues with dogma, mantra-parroting and groupthink "on both sides"? It's quite clear that there is but I don't even consider that a "sides" issue. They're not different things, they're exactly the same thing, just attached to different ideologies. It's never a good thing, separate to whether one ideology is objectively more dangerous than the other... The mindset itself, regardless of the focus, is dangerous. There's no such thing as a constructive conversation with a zealot and these days zealots are absolutely everywhere, interwoven into every issue big or small... and without conversation you have nothing.
