Really? I thought it was May 19th when hotels open that we're allowed to travel/holiday in the UK?

Suits me, though. I'm desperate for a city break, lol.

I think in July we’ll be driving down to Coventry/Birmingham to meet the other side of my GF’s family!

And in May we’re hoping to book a night away somewhere in Scotland

Oh and plenty camping trips too!

£5,000 fine for anybody having a holiday.

I think a holiday in the garden it is.

Overseas? and I think that’s a good thing, I think most people can manage not to go abroad for another year if it will kill this thing off, we all have to play our part, and holidaying in the UK will give an industry on its knees a huge boost so win win, time to think of the bigger picture...mmm do I go for a fortnight in Rhodes and bring back another strain that sends us into lockdown for another 5 months or do I suck it up and stay put for this year

I suppose my only caveat to that is the airline industry is on its knees as well

I maybe didn’t make it clear the other day but when I suggested that Rhodes was calling me I meant calling me to move there permanently ... not just a holiday ;)

It wont though realistically. Unless we close the boarders totally for everyone for any reason

I'll be going on holiday here in the UK this summer.
I'm not sure if I'll go to Italy at all this year.
At the moment the situation with the virus isn't good over there. So I will wait for winter and then decide.

I have a weekend away in a hotel booked for June(In Ireland obviously) so I'm hoping that will go ahead, the last one I booked in December was cancelled because of a snap Lock down, I'll be really upset if this one is cancelled too. We were supposed to be going to London for Gav's cousins wedding but there's no way we'll be able to do that now

It’s good Boris and Matt Hancock has given you the opportunity for a holiday in 2021 then, had you been elsewhere in Europe or with another government you’d be waiting a long time..

people from red countries have to quarantine now, having people stay put would really drive down the risk, I don't see it as a big deal and we have a place in Spain, I would rather forego a holiday than have all these lockdowns, when Europe catches up vaccination wise it will be a different story, I think 17th May is going to be too early unless vaccinations really ramp up globally

Highly doubt it tbh. There’s other things that I’d rather prioritise first than a holiday, maybe I’ll spend a day down the seaside or something in August but not jetting off to Spain or anything like that.

If we had any other government but a tory one, we would probably not waited until March last year to lock down and actually try to deal with a virus that had already arrived on our shores months before.

Let's not thank an incompetent government for doing the bare minimum of what's expected of them, let's have standards, shall we?

If this vaccination roll out is the bare minimum, then what are the efforts of almost every other country around the world bar Israel and one or two others?

We are world leading, you cannot call world leaders bare minimum

At least be willing to applaud when the government have done a phenomenal job, such as allowing you to feel safe to go on holiday/go abroad in 2021, which almost no other country could do for you, based on you wanting to wait for the vaccine - only the U.K. could give you that reassurance. The fact the government are able to make you feel that and the fact you’re able to even consider a holiday in 2021 is fantastic considering you wouldn’t be able to even consider freedom or holidays by your own standards of wanting to wait until you have had two doses.

Like I said in almost any other country in the world you wouldn’t have this freedom or reassurance that you have insinuated you require for a holiday (wanting both doses) so for that I say well done to Boris and Matt for letting you feel that you can go on holiday in 2021 when if you were in almost any other country around the world you would not be feeling this way based on you wanting to be vaccinated before going abroad.

well our holiday plans went from ''we're going'' to ''we have rethink about that''

but tbh the thought of two years in a row no holiday sounds too depressing :(, so likely we are going but still we need to work our plan how to do that safely

Hero worshipping politicians is never a good idea. They are there to do a job, when they do it badly, people suffer and die. I have high expectations of the government, and they have rarely been met. I'm not gonna lower my standards and clap like a possessed seal just to please someone who cannot see the faults of their chosen party and the mistakes they've made. Such blind devotion has no place in politics.

I do not give a **** about how we're measuring up to other countries, if we can do better, we should do better. Making out that we're perfect because of some pointless leaderboard is peak flagwankery and I have no time for it. Patriotism is for the gullible.

It doesn't matter that we're leading in vaccinations when people have already died because of the Tories' slow reaction to a virus they were made keenly aware of months before they decided to do something about it. It is unforgiveable that they willingly sacrificed lives to live in delusion for a little bit longer by not doing what other countries like Australia and New Zealand did, and took pre-emptive action.

The Tories' inaction and incompetence killed people, and no amount of blind loyalty and flagwankery is going to change that.

Are you not even aware that if we followed all the EU countries we wouldn't be coming out of lockdown right now, we'd be going into one

It might shock you to know this, but the world is bigger than the EU, and there's been countries that have handled Covid well through being pre-emptive.

Comparing our performance to other countries is pointless, the government made mistakes that cost lives and they should be held accountable for that whether you like Boris or not.

If I couldn’t go abroad I’d stay at home in London, I wouldn’t have a holiday in U.K. if they were giving them away complete with spending money.
