Vocally, I prefer more women.
There are plenty of legendary male voices (without going into opera )... Otis, James Brown, Marvin, Ray, Roy Orbison, Chet Baker, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, MJ, Prince... and that's without taking into rock, pop or folk musicians who have gentler/edgier voices. I'm just limiting myself to more... "classic" voices I guess.
But if I were to task myself with the decision of "listen to one person for their voice and their voice alone", my answer would always, always be Nina Simone... so I voted for women.
Daniel.

My faves tend to be females.
Paramore (a band but lead singer is female), Bjork, Kate, Fiona Apple, Grimes etc

Depends on the song.
Bonnie Tyler can get the goose bumps going, but so can joe cocker.

That's very subjective I think [emoji848] personally I prefer listening to lower, deeper voices so I probably like more male singers, Eddie Vedder being my favourite. And I like women with lower voices as well like Tracey Chapman. Alanis Morrisette is one of my favourite female singers because her voice has a lot of character. I'm just not into the big power house singers eventhough I can appreciate the notes they can hit etc

I prefer male voices in general because lots of females sound identical, look at Lady GuGu she sounds the same as every other generic female in the market. Lacks talent
Props to the females who make DIFFERENT music and don’t just copy the others, Taylor Swift comes to mind for modern days pop stars
Generally speaking .. obviously
Female voices for ballads
Guys for rock / heavy rock music
Any for pop music ...

Depends on the song really and the singer and their talent. Also some songs are made for female voices, some are for male voices, some are for both.

Modern Female singers no.
Ones from say way back through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s more like yes.
I probably do listen by choice to more Female singers than Male..
Not likely by that much of a margin.
That leaves me though, unable to vote in the poll.
If the poll said pre 90s as one section.
Then 90s to the present in another.
In that scenario certainly Female singers would be first with me there.

Again I think it depends what you prefer to listen to, I like both male and female singers.

This is actually hard for me because I like a good amount of both
Miranda is my #1 but the majority of others I like are males, but then there are more males in country music tbh

I don't see why we need to claim either male or female as better. Much like the comedy thread... it's subjective and the bases for evaluation of higher quality music has nothing to do with gender

yeah I'm finding these things all a bit reductive and meaningless tbh

Yeah I associate country music with guys voices and it all sounds a bit too samey for my liking ... I do love Kacey Musgraves though and her award winning album Golden Hour is amazing !!
