The past few weeks us londoners have been loving cheerful news stories of Freddie the seal.

Today the news story was far from cheerful.

Horrorfying scenes.

Doesn't look like his dog to me. It looks like hes trying to save the seal, as the owner jogs up and down on the spot.

The owner is the stupid woman thinking her dog is under control - she should pay towards the fees of the rescue team and any operations

Dogs should be walked, and not ran. Especially on a long leed by a lady jogger, when it's a dog.like that.

Oxford educated ass well...yet many posh postcode owners are all to willing to accuse the chav.

Its thinking its going hunting...knowing its getting food sometime(like home after the run) it sees the thing it's never seen before and goes for it.

That's animal instincts, my thoughts go out to the seal.

But what's it doing away up there being photographed

Was it fresh photographer fish for the hungry soul:shrug:

Should have called it Gemma

A dog doesn’t just attack another animal out of the blue.
In fact a lot of dogs don’t have the instinct to attack like that at all.
I had a pointer and he once chased an caught a rabbit, as soon as he had it in his mouth and felt it move he was so shocked he dropped it in a millisecond, his retriever instinct confused him.

This dog will be well know to his owners that he is aggressive and will attack other animals.

More care should have been taken.

It's sad, but... its nature? Like, if you think a dog attacking a seal is bad, don't watch any nature documentaries.

He didn't have a go at anyone. And what he said has nothing to do with me. Grow up.

Nature documentary show animals trying to survive. This is a dog attacking for the fun of it and the owner letting it happen

I'm not looking at the pictures but why was someone just taking pictures of it rather than doing something?

Something obviously triggered the dog to attack. It's possible that it was the first time seeing a seal and it marked it as a threat?

Dogs shouldn't be brought up like that tbh

They took pics of 4 or 5 people doing something, not just freely allowing the dog to attack. :)

Strange that people feel the need to take pics to begin with tbh.

She shouldn't have let it happen, I'm just defending the actual dog, dogs attack when they feel threatened, which is likely what happened, they don't attack for fun. It is possible that the dog was mistreated which led to it feeling threatened in this scenario, however its also possible that it was treated fine and still attacked. Animals don't have the same moral compass as humans, they're animals.

She apologised and gave a donation to the wildlife hospital and the police won't be pressing charges, cant help but think her dog would be considered dangerous if she was not a barrister?
