Why should he have been suspended, and why should the school apologize? We're not living under blasphemy laws.
I just hope he stays safe, we've seen what happens to teachers who show cartoons which annoy them...
Interesting how the protesters are okay with following a text that is full of violence and hatred, but showing a cartoon of a dead paedo is what crosses the line...

people never learn i see
i mean attacks like the charlie hepdo office one, or another teacher beheading in france even more recently
one would think we would all be more careful regarding prophet muhammad
Islam, according to koran is ''anti-terrorism'' so if this teacher gets any death threats it are radical extremists, like i said many times before and i still stand by my opinion on this, these sicko's are a disgrace for their own religion too whom i don't count as muslims myself (the real muslims are the victims here as well, who get verbal and physical abuse cuz of the actions of those terrorist lunatics)

Even if their religious texts were anti-terrorism, what actually matters is how they're interpreted and enacted in the world. And the way they're currently being followed is rather pro-terror, and anti-freedom.
...this are words from Qari Asim...
Asim, chair of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board and imam of the Makkah mosque in Leeds, said: “People have a right to express their concerns and hurt but protests can’t always achieve what can be achieved through constructive dialogue. Fair investigation by the school, in consultation with the parents, should be allowed to take place. We do not want to fan the flames of Islamophobia and provoke hatred or division.”

...seriously Arista, any threats of violence or fears of violence would not be from ‘strict Muslims’, it would be from extremists/terrorists...
....the focus now for everyone/the school and the community needs to be how to move forward from this and as Qari Asim has said, communication is the key...and the defusing of any heightened feelings atm...

It shouldn't even be investigated, freedoms shouldn't bow down to a religion. Especially with the threat of violence hanging over things, that's pretty much
bowing down to terrorism.
The teacher knew exactly what he was doing and what it would stir up. It was obviously premeditated. It's a long time since I did anything close to religious education (it wasn't big in Scotland :smug:) but, is it appropriate to mock any religion in a RE class - i don't think so
That aside, the point has been made. Those with strong religious beliefs think they can tear down our democracy if it conflicts with their religion and that has to be stamped out quickly

If you were in a religious studies class, would you expect your religion to be mocked? Don't get me wrong, i'm all for it, but I wouldn't expect it to be validated by the school. He obviously knew that, it's an emotive cartoon. I feel certain he did it knowingly to raise the issue in the community

It doesn't matter why he did it, he should be able to show a satirical drawing without his life being endangered and the only apologies being made are for his actions.

That's a fair reason to do it, to be fair. The way the parents ("parents") reacted, you can bet the kids don't get to see much of freedom, so it's only fair to demonstrate this.

I agree...however there is no freedom of speech anymore because people get offended by the slightest thing and twist it into something it isn’t.
Considering it was a highly populated Muslim school I think it was a stupid and disrespectful thing to do by a teacher...especially what happened to the teacher in France. Then again we shouldn’t have to yield to Terrorists and murderers.
Sadly it’s the world we now live in.

But we all know how these things play out; if he does go back, he'll either be murdered or the school will get blown up. Sadly the best thing that needs to happen is he needs to be given a new identity.

This to me is where racism gets mixed up with culture, I do not like these sort of fanatics they are dangerous and have no place in our society its not how we roll, If its something they believe in they should be where this sort of thing is acceptable, its not here, and we should not be getting rid of teachers etc, because a group of people believe their culture is above any other. They have no tolerance for any other culture, but we are supposed to bow to theirs, its just wrong imo.Whatever happened to live and let live.

agree, the intent was not to disrespect, this is a state school in England which caters for students from all faiths and none.
The RS Teacher was trying to educate students about racism and blasphemy. He warned the students before showing the images and he had the intent to educate them.
