Right then... I promised it'd be here by the end of the week and here we are.

Top Answers has been a game on TiBB for a very long time and has been hosted by Z, ukturtle, Niamh and now myself. Its premise is simple: everyone answers the same questions, via a PM to me, with the first thing that comes to their heads. This isn't a trivia game, and it doesn't require correct or "the most qualified" answers at all. If I ask everyone "name something blue" and, by some odd turn of events, 20 of you respond with "egg", then egg is the most popular answer, damnit! At the end of the round, I reveal the full list of answers given by members to each question, along with a points total of who was able to guess the most popular answers.

There will be ten rounds and there are now fifteen questions per round again, so it may take a little time to fill in but none of them require much research... I've tried to make them as lateral as possible without repeating questions from previous editions of the game. Each round will last for three days (an increase on the usual two in the past, for a number of reasons such as to help the Pointless spinoff run smoother, to give everyone more time to submit answers, and because it's only really a casual game rather than something that requires constant, daily attention).

That said... this time, we'll (hopefully, once I contact an admin) be seeing a new award for the overall winner of the game. In the theory that this game is essentially "Family Fortunes" or "Family Feud" (but we're now nine editions in, and it's too late to rename it now :ninja2:) , the award has been taken from its iconic "X" symbol: https://i.imgur.com/OjQAQfl.png

The ten rounds will be themed around music, TV, film, sports, science & nature, history, geography, food & drink, celebrity culture, and "miscellaneous". By that, I mean it's not quite general knowledge, but isn't covered by any of the other categories... sort of an "everyday life" category, if you will.

Round one will be questions about television... and here they are.

yeah this is probably the most difficult round, sorry... I just didn't want to reuse the same old questions about Tudor kings and Roman emperors

The French empire one is quite difficult since there are a LOT of present-day countries that were, at some point, governed by France and none of them seem "obvious" (at least to me, anyway). The Ottoman one should be an easier "obvious" answer once you google where it was, though, I think.

The only question I felt iffy including was #4 because it was something that seemed obvious to me when I was writing it, but without knowing the name I was thinking of, I'd imagine is quite daunting

That freeviev channel question, I didn't pick any of the ITV 2, 3, 4 or E4, or BBC 4, because I thought they were part of the ones you couldn't have. Obviously you meant just the first five channels and not all BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, channels.

There are several questions where this scenario is possible so this is actually tricky.

I honestly voted Labour because I thought it would be easier to type  I can see why the Tories won since they're in power but I was banking on us being a little lazy

I also wrote these questions before Prince Philip died so I assumed the answer to #1 would be York (that was my gut reaction at the time of writing, but I did change to Edinburgh when I opened the round bc... breaking news... etc), so I guess the news definitely affected things subliminally.

Yeah i was going to choose Marie Curie but she didn't find a cure for anything, she did invent or discover Radium that was later used for treating cancer but she didn't discover that use for it. I went with Edward Jenner because he invented Vaccines which i thought (wrongly) would be topical right now

ah okay, I assumed she was never in contention because she's been stable / a huge Hollywood actress for decades now (I don't remember anything since I became aware of her through Charlie's Angels, Scream, etc)

She was a big child star since she was 4, in ET, she went massively off the rails, just looking there :

At seven, she’s a film star pouring Baileys over her ice-cream, at 11 she develops a drink problem, at 12 she’s a drug addict, at 13 she cuts her wrists and is hospitalised, and at 14 she’s legally divorced from her parents. Of course, you wouldn’t make the movie. Too far-fetched. There’s only so much disbelief that one can willingly suspend.

But you’ve not heard the half of Drew Barrymore’s story. Unemployable as an actor at 15, cleaning toilets at 16, she was twice married and twice divorced by her mid-20s.

This is probably going to be one of the few instances where I have to intervene on a question, because I'm typically afraid to in case I influence your decisions... but with question #3, I currently have NINE :o different answers.

I ask that you re-read the question carefully, make sure that your answer is an independent country, ie. a sovereign state recognised by the UN, and that they declared independence after April 1991 (ie. 30 years ago :worry: sorry for that reminder of how much time has passed since the 90s...)

I can't give a list of eligible countries because everyone could just look at it and go "right, let's submit the one at the top of the list".

I just want to be sure that there is an entry submitted before deadline to eliminate the possibility of missing a round.

I'm banning Niamh from the game for dissing Miss Congeniality

also I might need to go back and check the scores for the Home Alone question, because I foolishly assumed that Kevin used the blow-torch to heat up the door knob and therefore combined them together to make the same answer... but now I recall he used something else to make the doorknobs hot, some weird electrical heater, and used the blow-torch to set Joe Pesci's hat on fire  so I think I'll have to split them up.

I said Shawshank for question 15. I didn't have a clue what films ITV regularly show.

I have practically given up watching TV so I just put Jaws because I saw it was on recently and few times before.

I know they show the Harry Potters and Bonds a lot but I didn't know which film to select from those franchises.

I know right?

I decided on Miss Congeniality from that, Speed and Gravity.
