...ok, so let’s look at these one by one...

...Puss in Boots...?..as a Disney character, it was a 1922 movie and wasn’t any type of spin off given their own movie...this is the character...

https://cinemacats.com/puss-in-boots-1922/

...so Puss in Boots has had his own movie obviously but he isn’t a Disney character so isn’t technically correct...but...because he has a movie to be released in 2024, which is Disney...?...it’s describing him on the Disney wiki as an orange cat and the 1922 didn’t even consider orange as a colour so....

...it’s misleading so that answer was given in good faith and will be accepted in good faith...

thanks Ammi there was definately a more recent Puss in Boots released 2011 which was a spin off with Antonio Banderas voicing the cat again

I think you have done the right thing, at this stage it is more or less anyones game especially if there is a double points round as per usual

where did Girth spring from?

I was thinking as well another rule that might help the host to be able to say an answer is wrong and not totally rule someone out of the running is, if the worst score for the question was 3 then you could give the person who answered wrong a 4 so one point more than the highest score, if you know what i mean?

Ammi

...I do that if someone doesn’t complete a round...I take the highest points for each question and add 1...if it’s a total 0 point question then I’ll put that person down as a 1 point...

Ammi

Yeah but I mean just for if someone does send their answers in but happens to answer one question with a wrong answer

1) There are only 7 teams that have played in the Premier League that begin with the letter S ...

5) 33 men have won a Formula 1 Drivers Championship (Wiki)

6) There are 6 valid options for the golf club

7) It must be a headliner and not a guest appearance

I think new players should get an instant points deduction as its not fair to come in on round 7 and get pointless answer for the remainder and win

Will they'd automatically be top of the leader because they wouldn't have picked up any points for 6 rounds  I'm sure Ammi has thought of that already though :p

You mean points penalty/increase?

Ammi
30-04-2021, 09:04 AM
...I have thought about that and there will be points recorded for the previous rounds...i guess it’ll be a similar notion to anyone who begins the game and then maybe doesn’t submit for one or so rounds etc...?..

..maybe I’m over complicating my own thoughts but that wasn’t the potentially tricky bit for me...so this is the leaderboard as it stands now../...it’s pretty tight, yeah...?...

its very tight and so few answers to some of these questions could change everything :worry:

Ammi

its very tight and so few answers to some of these questions could change everything :worry:

...yeah that’s the thing...so for instance, I’ll take you and Niamh because you’re only 1 point apart so that makes it easier...if the new player matches answers with you for this round...?...then potentially that could increase your total by one point per every duplicate match/depending on whether anyone else has also matched...if that player’s answers matched with Niamh’s answers less times that they did with yours, that could put Niamh ahead of you...?...which obviously is the name of the Pointless game each round...but with a new player to the game, which is a more unusual thing and not knowing how many rounds they’ll play...(...because anyone can obviously stop playing at any time...)...it’s just knowing that everyone is ok with that, while being fair to the new player to be inclusive...and also being fair to the players...

...maybe I’m over thinking and over complicating...

...I think Parm’s score and how it’s done is not the thing, I’m sure he’ll be totally fine with any point penalties etc...it’s more that Pointless in itself as a game is based on point penalties and some could apply to others who may duplicate with him on answers that would be considered more crucial...?...

Never heard of half those Dutch players, so hardly legends. I know a bit or two about legendary players.

Also, the golf club question. People have just put wedge. But what kind of wedge, I'm not that knowledgeable about golf, but I know there are different kinds of wedges, such as Pitching wedge, sand wedge.

when you think you're safe mentioning your hometown's football stadium, all the way down in the National League, and then some ****ing Finnish bot names it as well :oh:

Cald naming the stadium of Torquay is rather impressive tbf

Never heard of half those Dutch players, so hardly legends. I know a bit or two about legendary players.

Also, the golf club question. People have just put wedge. But what kind of wedge, I'm not that knowledgeable about golf, but I know there are different kinds of wedges, such as Pitching wedge, sand wedge.

We had clarification though

There are 6 valid options for the golf club

Shaun
01-05-2021, 03:00 PM
Yeah a wedge would be a "type" of golf club, and then there are "types" of wedge  so I guess all types of wedge were considered as the same answer ("Wedge") by Ammi

Does 3 have to be called ‘poison’ or can it have the word poison in it?

Shaun
01-05-2021, 05:35 PM
I think it'd have to be called "Poison" or something like "Poison (You With a Jar of ****ing Arsenic, You Bitch)"... the emphasis would be on the word itself, standing alone

so no "Poison Arrow" or "Poison Prince" or "Poison Girl" etc

1) the valid answers are gold, lead, zinc, iron and neon

2) this must actually be a metal and not something that'd be classed as a fossil fuel (like coal)

3) cloud type must be listed in the table chart here:

7) Kidneys, eyes, lungs, ovaries, testicles, adrenal glands or ears would be the possibilities.

8) Bitter, sweet, umami, sour, salty would be the answer options.

No problem

Whats the difference between dinner and supper? If the quiz master states they are the same thing then I win dont I?

…well, that’s how Pointless doesn’t always work for me with using the same questions …I probably should have said that as a guidance at the beginning so…/…my bad, it’s been a learning curve for me…all I can say is my thought process in that…as Shaun said, there is generally 3 meals a day so maybe technically, breakfast, lunch and dinner…?…but some people may have that in between meal of breakfast and lunch/brunch…so that would create a different meal …then someone could have an afternoon tea, that’s been a very popular/trendy thing of recent times…so then they wouldn’t necessarily have dinner as such, which would be a main meal…but maybe a small snack supper instead as they’d had that larger tea…

Ammi
10-05-2021, 10:23 AM
…it’s a call I made with thought and I felt that dinner would be a definite main meal, while supper could be more of a lighter meal but one of a person’s ‘3 meals per day’….

GiRTh
10-05-2021, 10:30 AM
I see. I was just messing Brunch is just as ambiguous an answer.

Ammi
10-05-2021, 10:39 AM
…from a personal point of view as a host but maybe not the same for players….?..I liked the guidance that limited answers…(…or just having it as an independent game with questions that do have limited answers..)…just because it makes it tighter with duplicate answers and doesn’t open up so much to endless Google possibilities to find the most ‘obscure’…there would always be limited possibilities on an actual Pointless game board…

…but yeah, I did give thought to Cherie’s supper…as to whether it was actually dinner…but then, if she’d had an afternoon tea, then it could be something different from dinner……

Niamh.
10-05-2021, 10:45 AM
Well I would have thought Supper was a lighter later meal but then I wasn't sure the way the question was worded if we were only supposed to choose from the 3 main meals Breakfast, lunch & dinner. But like you said Ammi, some questions (or a lot of them) are just too open ended to work properly for Pointless. I think the game would work better with a different, more tight set of questions with only a certain amount of correct answers

Ammi
10-05-2021, 10:47 AM
…dinner and tea are different meals entirely as well…(…IMO…)…not the same meal under a different name…

….because (for instance…)…if a child were to have a hot school meal at lunchtime…their parents might only give them a sandwich meal later in the day…and for me a sandwich meal couldn’t be described as a dinner because dinner is a main meal…so it’s not just a different descriptive, it’s a different meal….

…for me personally…I found it more fun doing the tighter questions and seeing what ‘the most popular’ pointless answer was…which I think is more inline with the TV game …but tbh, I haven’t actually watched a whole episode I don’t think…

Plus they're regional terms as well. I would never use the term Tea but I would have just thought it was a different word for dinner, plus school kids here don't have school dinners anyway, it's all packed lunches

I personally think the 3 meals are Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, but I know many people who call them Breakfast, Dinner and Tea, so it depends where you’re from really, but it is one of the main three meals elsewhere in the country

Loved the Helen the receptionist Saga, Mitchell

Ammi, you did a fantastic job and are really overselling how much I helped  I know first-hand how long this takes to put together and fact-check, and you did well with it

I agree with Niamh, that future editions of the game should probably have different questions... not only for the "concrete definitions of a correct answer" element, but also so it doesn't overlap with TA and people are fearful of "spoiling" an answer for that later on
