Portland rioters set fire to Apple store that had George Floyd mural, vandalize
church that feeds the homeless


For the third time this week, a riot was declared in Portland late Friday night
after insurgents demanding social justice caused widespread damage to
businesses and a church that feeds the homeless weekly.

A group of several hundred left wing extremists people marched through
Portland on Friday. During the BLM protest, the crowd chanted, "If we don't get
it, shut it down!" and "Black lives matter!"

The Portland Police reported looting and some stores were vandalized with anti-
cop graffiti. There were also reports of gunshots. Some rioters destroyed the
storefront windows of Nordstrom, Verizon, Nike, Starbucks, and banks.

"Windows were also broken at the First Christian Church, a location known
for their generosity in feeding over a thousand meals weekly to the
homeless," the Portland Police Bureau reported.

"These are the people feeding the unhoused and telling the story of racial
injustice in Oregon. It just doesn't make sense," a downtown Portland
resident told Shane D. Kavanaugh, a reporter with The Oregonian.

The Oregon Historical Society was also damaged; vandals wrote: "NO MORE HISTORY." :facepalm:

Its quite depressing that genuine protests seem to attract these ****ing idiots who think smashing up shops and...looting (as always, greedy twats...sure its 'for the cause' rather than you just wanting stuff for free and jumping at any reason) is fine and dandy. Then, you get idiots defending the looting and vandalism and violence, because 'protest'. When..no, protests do not need to involve stuff like that.

Edited - This goes for so many protests, for many reasons too. Its only a short time between 'protest for X reason' and 'looting and violence breaks out at X protest'. As if some think they are one and the same. Nope. The arseholes who go to be violent or steal are..just dickheads who dont give a crap about 'the cause', whatever the cause may be.

As was evidenced last year when a **** ton of the vandalism and violence in the George Floyd protests were attributed to right wing extremists escalating the situation, my guess is that if this was investigated further, it would be a similar story. The Right Wing is nothing if not deeply predictable.

To be fair, the kind of people who riot and loot are just scumbags with no moral integrity, so regardless of whatever excuse they're using to riot, the "reason" goes out the window.

Moreover, when it comes to bloated capitalist pigs like Apple, any show of solidarity is likely just a feat of "virtue signalling" rather than true compassion, so it's a case of nothing of value being lost, at the hands of the valueless.

Not anywhere near as much of an issue as the far right obviously (currently, and not likely to ever become as much of an issue either in fairness). But I don't really get why some seem a bit desperate to totally rubbish the fact that..well the far left do exist, and cause problems sometimes.

I don't think left/right matters too much in stuff like vandalism and looting instead of genuine protest though. As has been said already, these people are just arseholes, regardless of political affiliation. Sadly, such selfish twats exist all over the political spectrum, and in all demographics too.

It's the false equivalence I have an issue with. The right wing response to right wing extremism is to scream about the left, but unless the 'extreme' left start killing people like the extreme right do, it's just diversionary whataboutism.

The Right wing influence and their inflammatory actions during the George Floyd protests to undermine will always make me suspicious of such actions in similar protests.
