CELEBRITY Big Brother lovebirds Chantelle and Preston have split up, just 10 months after their fairytale wedding.

And pals said it was the torment of seeing their fame fade away that put their marriage on the rocks.

The couple announced the split yesterday, following months of speculation their relationship was in big trouble.

Chantelle had walked out on singer Preston three times but returned each time, claiming their love was as strong as ever.

Now it is all over. And friends said it was not so much the pressure of fame that caused the rift, but the ordeal of seeing their telly appeal decline.

One said the last straw for Chantelle came when she was asked to hand back the car she had been given to use by telly bosses.

The pal said: “Big Brother killed the romance and the marriage when the fame and adulation vanished. Chantelle could not cope with being out of the limelight and not in demand any more.

“She started out as a Paris Hilton lookalike and she became a star in her own right. But, unlike Paris, she couldn’t keep the publicity ball rolling and had virtually disappeared from the celebrity radar.

“That caused no end of friction between her and Preston. He still has his band and his music. She has virtually nothing left to do.”

TV viewers were delighted when Ordinary Boys singer Preston, 25, fell for dizzy blonde Chantelle Houghton, 23, on the Channel 4 show in January last year.

The girl, famed for her cries of “Oh my Gawd!”, had been included as a housemate to try to fool the rest into believing she was a celeb. It worked, and she went on to win.

After leaving the show Preston – real name Samuel Preston – ditched his French fiancée Camille Anzar, 25. In August last year, he and Chantelle tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in London’s Mayfair.

But pals said the cracks began to show just months later, when they moved into the Brighton home he once shared with Camille. There were rumours of massive rows.

After winning Celebrity BB, Chantelle had her own E4 series, Living The Dream, and released her autobiography, entitled Living the Dream: My Story.

But she has since struggled to find work, which is said to have put more pressure on the marriage.

Chantelle and Preston said yesterday in a statement: “After much soul-searching and tearful discussions, we have sadly decided to end our marriage.

“We hope we can always remain friends and still love each other, but we put so much pressure on one another to make our marriage work that it has ended up destroying our relationship. No-one else is involved in our decision.

“We know people will think we married too quickly on the back of Big Brother, but we were genuinely in love at the time and we will never regret our time together.

“We never treated our vows or our commitment to each other lightly. We’ve spent hours and hours discussing whether we can salvage our marriage.
“But we now both agree that we should go our separate ways.”

Don't cry Princess.........

BB LOVERS SPLIT
(But we made £1M each in10 months)
By Fiona Cummins, Showbiz Reporter 28/06/2007

CELEBRITY Big Brother's Chantelle Houghton and Samuel Preston have split up - after raking in a fortune.

The couple met on the show and wed after a whirlwind romance.

But yesterday they insisted their 10-month marriage, in which they made £1million each from new-found fame, had been "genuine love" and not a stunt. But it did prove a goldmine. Blonde Chantelle, 23, who was planted in BB as a fake celebrity and went on to win, bagged £280,000 from magazine deals and £73,000 for E4 TV series Living the Dream.

She landed £300,000 to write her life story and modelling netted £200,000. Ordinary Boys' star Preston, 25, also made £60,000 from a re-released single. The couple even sold rights to their plush wedding to OK! magazine for £300,000.

But it all ended yesterday when they said in a statement they were parting after "much soul-searching and tears". It continued: "We both think we put so much pressure on each other to make our marriage work it destroyed our relationship. No one else is involved.

"We hope we can always remain friends and still love each other."

And they insisted they did not regret marrying. explaining: "We had a whirlwind romance and were genuinely in love. We've spent hours and hours discussing whether we can salvage our marriage, anything rather than give up."

Preston proposed to long-term French girlfriend Camille Aznar days after leaving BB - then called it off to be with Chantelle.

They got engaged in April 2006. When they wed in August it was the first time Preston's mum had met Chantelle. Last month Chantelle strongly denied their marriage was in trouble, saying: "We are blissfully happy."

But it was rocked by rows - and Chantelle had reportedly walked out three times .

Friends said she struggled to settle in Brighton with friends and family still in Essex. She was also said to find obscurity hard after a taste of fame.

Chantelle and Preston are the latest BB lovers to split. Grace Adams-Short and Mikey Dalton, of BB 7, are the only surviving couple.

Floods in UK - people dying
British troops being killed in Iraq in a war started with a pack of lies

and what happens ? - people getting all het up because two plastic z list wannabes split up to get some extra media exposure - G-d knows what they would do if faced with "real" tragedy. Unlike the current flood deaths and Iraq deaths, which, it appears to a certain section of our population, pale into insignifigance next to the pretend love life of two nobodies

I just do not understand that mindset at all - but I suppose it sells papers

I'd be suprised if this nation has twenty years left

Just wanted to say theres a lot of crappy rumours going around at the moment about why they broke up. Chantelles supposed boob job etc. And its utter nonense! The only truth amongst all this garbage is their statement.

"After much soul-searching and tearful discussions we have sadly decided to end our marriage.
We hope we can always remain friends and still love each other, but we both think we put so much pressure on one another to make our marriage work that it has ended up destroying our relationship. No-one else is involved in our decision.
We know people will think we married too quickly on the back of Big Brother, but the truth is that, despite what anyone thinks, we did have a whirlwind romance but we were genuinely in love with each other at the time and we will never regret our time together.
We both believe in marriage and we never treated our vows or our commitment to each other lightly. We've spent hours and hours discussing whether we can salvage our marriage, give it another go, try harder, anything rather than give up.
But we now both agree that we should go our separate ways. We are both young and we still have our lives in front of us. The last two weeks or so have been very upsetting and sad for us and our friends and family and we appreciate their support.
We do not plan to make any further comment."
