Mainly it was down to the level of debt they brought to the club. They bought the club with loans secured against the club and its assets and showed no interest in the club only rinsing it and taking it further into debt

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said "it became clear that many of those present were not intending to exercise their right to peaceful protest" and that "flares were let off and bottles thrown at officers".

They added that protestors getting into the ground meant "some United staff having to lock themselves in rooms".

"Those in the stadium were evicted by officers but outside on the forecourt, hostility grew with bottles and barriers being thrown at officers and horses," said GMP.

"Two officers have been injured with one officer being attacked with a bottle and sustaining a significant slash wound to his face requiring emergency hospital treatment."

GMP assistant chief constable Russ Jackson said: "The behaviour displayed by those at both Old Trafford and the Lowry Hotel was reckless and dangerous.

"We have launched an investigation and we will be working closely alongside partners to ensure we establish the full circumstances surrounding the events and prosecute those responsible."

BBC Sport has been told the disorder included serious clashes with police around the entrance to the Munich tunnel, which runs behind the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand at Old Trafford.

"Our fans are passionate about Manchester United, and we completely acknowledge the right to free expression and peaceful protest," said United.

"However, we regret the disruption to the team and actions which put other fans, staff, and the police in danger.

"We thank the police for their support and will assist them in any subsequent investigations."

Liverpool, who were also involved in the failed attempt to join the ESL, said they were in "full agreement" to postpone the game.

"It is our position that public safety must be the number one factor in any such decision, with the ability to provide a secure environment for the participants, staff and officials being a particular priority," said the Anfield club.

"It was clearly not possible for this to be guaranteed due to a situation which escalated rapidly."

I’m proud that our fanbase went out and protested and went out in such force and numbers that the area effectively had to be put into shutdown and the biggest fixture in the Premier League canceled. It’s about time these owners saw the power of their fans. You can try use one or two isolated incidents as point scoring, but again... let’s not bring up Liverpool and their supporter’s history because then it’s going to be a very one sided argument.

Also, it’s not bad considering no United fans are actually from Manchester apparently :hee:

This feeling of unrest has been there since the Glazers took over. There has been Glazers Out merchandise everywhere in Manchester since then. Its nothing to do with rich owners pricing out the lower level teams, its about the amount of debt they saddled Utd with, whilst securing it against the club and assets, its about having no interest in Manchester Utd and the fans have had enough. The ESL just was a catalyst of what the fans thought - they want the money not the club and the history and they want to take the game further away from the fans.

the glazer family plunged the club into huge debt to profit personally from it, thats the big issue. One could say they are the owners and they can do what they like, and they are, but they tried to kill the entire football framework in the UK (and europe), so then it becomes much more than about the club that they own, it is about every club. That to me is a legitimate reason to protest.

Its frustration about something they are passionate about though Kaz. Something they love being destroyed. You love animals and are passionate about their welfare right? Would you condemn protestors if they damaged property at a place where animals are harmed because their voices weren't being heard? This is how some fans see it and they have been frustrated for many years and protested and nothing has changed. To many its "only a game" but there are die hard fans out there who live and breathe the football club.

The change the supporters want is to get the Glazers out Arista. They know they don't care and won't change, they want them to sell. Billionaire fans "the Red Knights" tried to buy them out but the Glazers valued the club too high and so that fell through. They are nothing but greedy owners with no interest. I do get the sentiment Annie and yes they have the right to be angry, but it's the destruction of things at their club I don't agree with and yes I would be happy to protest over animals as they are living and feel pain so to me they are paramount,I just feel the destruction is a step too far over the owners of a football club, I feel the same about any protests that include destruction, but I do get that they feel let down maybe they should protest by boycotting the club for a while.:wavey:

I very rarely post on this forum but this made me so angry.
A small pocket of yobs took over what was 99% a very peaceful and orderly protest. No United fan should be punished for this.
Violence is never something I condone but having been on other protests such as BLM, it happens when people are so passionate and hurt about something they deeply care about.
Did not hear the media making such a huge deal a few weeks ago when Liverpool fans attacked the Madrid bus. And that worse worse because of how close they were to the playing staff. Nothing in the media about that.
Yes, there are owners worse than the Glazers, but you have to remember we have had to put up with this for 16 years. I remember when there were just rumours of a takeover and there were protests. This is not a new thing.
The Blazers have saddled my club with a huge debt and invested none of their own money in the club. They never bother to come to matches. The stadium badly needs updating and the ticket prices are obscene.

what about becoming similar to a Bayern Munich?

i mean they are also worth quite a lot, they got a good load of sponsor deals but their director board is mostly consisting out of former players, club legends

so yeah i think sponsor deals can cover those billion of pounds depending on finding the right ones

but having a board out of former players, icons could up popularity level with the fans asap
