A young British woman was strangled to death in front of her baby daughter while her husband was tied up in another room in their home in Athens.

The horrific killing of 20-year-old Caroline Crouch in front of her 11-month-old daughter is highly unusual in Greece and has shocked the country.

A special police task force has been ordered to investigate the murder, with a manhunt currently underway to identify the attackers.

The student was murdered by a gang of three burglars who ransacked the family’s apartment in the suburb of Glyka Nera in the Greek capital.

Police said the robbery took place at around 4am on Tuesday, when Ms Crouch, who was British-Filipino but born in Greece, was sleeping with her baby.

They reportedly pointed a gun at the child while demanding to know where cash and valuables were kept.

They also killed the family’s pet dog and tied Ms Crouch’s husband, Charalambos Anagnostopoulos, 32, a helicopter pilot, to a chair in another room.

The raiders then reportedly strangled Ms Crouch with her own blouse in order to stop her from screaming for help.

Mr Anagnostopoulos eventually managed to free himself and found his baby daughter crying beside the lifeless body of his wife.

Absolutely awful for the poor lady killed and the child facing growing up without a mother's love.

However, something doesn't sit quite right with this story and I hope I'm completely wrong but it seems odd. Why kill her and not both adults? There are conflicting reports about where her husband was, one report I read said that he said he was in the artic bedroom but later.on he said he was sleeping downstairs. I don't know if I'm looking for an angle that isn't there and I hope I'm wrong but something doesn't sit right.

Horrific.

You've gotta hope they're caught ASAP because if they're willing to kill a young mother, an innocent animal and point a gun at a baby they need keeping away from.socity. Scumbags.

A €300,000 (£257,000) reward is being offered by the Greek government to track down burglars who strangled a British woman next to her baby in Athens.

The 20-year-old victim was sleeping with her husband and 11-month-old child when three men broke into their home in the Glyka Nera suburb before dawn after killing the family's dog, said reports.

The young mother was tied up and strangled, while her 32-year-old husband, a pilot, was bound and gagged.

He survived Tuesday's "barbaric" attack and managed to loosen his ties before calling police.

The burglars escaped with money and jewellery, while the baby was unharmed.

Greece's minister responsible for public order, Michalis Chrisochoidis, described the woman's killing as "particularly heinous".

"One rarely encounters such barbarity in Greece, in Greek society, even among criminals," he said.

Has to be part of a larger organised crime gang I think ...

He was probably very wealthy or maybe someone was sending him a ‘message’
or maybe there’s another explanation.

Bet they weren’t Greek criminals though ...

that's a point why tie him up and kill her, surely she would have been easier to tie up then him

sounds like a plot from a John Wick movie, certainly gangland poor girl

Police investigating the brutal murder of a British mum in Greece arrest a man on the Bulgarian border…

Police investigating the brutal murder of a British mother in Greece have arrested a man.

Caroline Crouch, 20, was strangled to death in front of her 11-month-old daughter Lydia after burglars raided her home outside Athens on Tuesday.

Ms Crouch’s husband, helicopter pilot Charalambos Anagnostopolous, was tied up and gagged.

A Georgian man has been arrested on the Bulgarian border in relation to the killing, local media reported.

DNA analysis has linked him to a burglary in Pikermi on March 7 when an elderly couple were tied up while raiders ransacked their home.

The couple’s property is just 20 minutes drive from Ms Crouch’s home in the affluent suburb of Glyka Nera.

The suspect was arrested after trying travel by car from Greece to Bulgaria on a fake passport.

The Husband has confessed to murder

Bloody knew it. Sounded "off" from the start.

The poor girl, and worse, the poor child having to grow up and find this out

The Husband has confessed to murder

I literally read the first sentence of the story and said "I will eat my hat if it wasn't the husband". Three blokes randomly murder someone during a burglary and then leave someone else alive in the next room who can ID them? Sure.

There was also the fact that his whole cover story was about as convincing as an ITV daytime drama.

I think this is partly because the VAST majority of murders are committed by "someone the person knows" - especially when women are killed at home - and the chances of being randomly killed like was described are very, very low. Straight away it reminded me an awful lot of the Oscar Pistorius case.

Secondly we've all seen so many TrueCrime documentaries on Netflix now and it always turns out to be something like this so suspicions are brought up immediately.

unfortunately, smart devices are going to be removed from victims in the future due to the publicity in this. The police really should have kept the details of how he was caught confidential
