Real Sad
for all that knew this nice lad.

[Jordan raised £2,500 by running 30 miles in ten days.]

[A nine-year-old boy who died after apparently
being struck by lightning on a football field in
Blackpool has been named as Jordan Banks.
Police officers were called shortly after 5pm on Tuesday
to fields near to School Road after reports
a child had been injured.
Emergency services attended and the boy
was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
It is believed the boy was struck by lightning,
although inquiries are still ongoing.]

This is awful. Its weird, I dropped my son at athletics last night and I was just about to leave when they called it off as it had started lightening. I thought they were being a bit ridiculously over cautious then I saw this on the news and I was so glad. Just such a sad thing.

Around 2000 people are killed annually by lightning

The bolt is about as thick as your thumb and 2-3 miles long

Temperature wise it's 30,000C or 5x hotter than the surface of the sun

Poor kid. He seemed like a genuinely lovely one as well. Hopefully LFC can make some form of gesture to his memory/family.

It breaks my heart to see such a waste of life.

But you have to take comfort in the thought that god needed him.
