Frankfurt have been terrible in the league but probably difficult to overstate how much playing in the Europa League takes it out of you if you don't have a lot of squad depth. The Thursday-Sunday turnaround is pretty brutal. We were pretty bad in the league for a good few weeks while competing in Europe and it probably had that effect on Frankfurt and Rangers too. Rangers might have pushed Celtic closer if they'd been knocked out but I doubt they'd trade the experience of getting to a major final
