…wow, I’m glad that he’s ok…two people apparently have been arrested…if someone was close enough to have physical contact to slap him, it obviously could have been much worse so good that it wasn’t…we’ll see what Remy, our guy in France has to say….

You know it's bad when even Marine Le Pen, that evil far right leader, disagrees with what just happened. All politicians and French people are very shocked at this.

One may dislike him or not agree with his policies but democracy cannot tolerate this violence. People can freely give their opinions in the streets, in the media, on social media and also whenever there is a vote.

I mean France is known for its protests and strikes but this is on another level of heinous behavior. Slapping him for what? It's dumb and pointless.
From what I can read right now in different places (Twitter being one of them, I know I shouldn't read it...), our French leaders say "You can't attack physically a politician, especially the President". It goes beyong everything democracy stands for.

I know in the UK you don't have the same "relationship" with your Prime Ministers but in France we have a strong tradition for Presidents and a specific level of respect for them (well, we beheaded a King but you get the point). …I was waiting to hear your take on this because it is pretty terrifying as well and just such an intolerable thing to happen….it’s how vulnerable Macron was that this could have happened to him and obviously could have been something quite horrendous in terms of injury if there was other intent there….

Macron tends to shake hands a lot and go to crowds, and more frequently these days as he's touring the country (and starting his reelection campaign for 2022). He talks with people and engages in tough conversations sometimes, but it never got to this point. It's so wrong on so many levels.

Well I knew I should not have read Twitter :joker: Now we have some conspiracy theories about these two dudes being hired by Macron himself to slap him in order for people to feel bad for him and favor him in the Presidential Election next year :joker: I can't.

…so long as we have Twitter/social media…no one will ever have to have accountability for anything….them’s the rules, baby….

Currently in France, there is a highly-publicized trial of 13 people accused of cyberbullying a teenage girl on social media. This story went wild in the country and the verdict is very much expected because it could really show that some people are held accountable for their actions on social media.
And it's about time.

…I’m just reading up about this now, it does seem quite reported over here as well in many media because I wasn’t sure if most of the reporting would have been in French to be translated but that’s not the case…it feels like it’s quite a complicated case, I’ll read what I can about it and follow it now that I’m aware of it…thank you for that, Remy…….

…that’s not really the point, Arista…it was his vulnerability of being open to being harmed more seriously…

Complicated case indeed and freedom of speech is the focus point of this case. She can't go back to school anymore. Insane.

Anyway, everybody in France right now is praying Macron isn't upset enough to delay the measures for the ease of lockdown supposed to start tomorrow

…yeah I’ll join your hoping for the ease of lockdown not to have any delays…one of my niece’s in Paris who still has a family wedding celebration on delayed hold for Spring of next year…is now expecting her first child, I’ve just found out…so we need everything moving forward as soon as possible so that I can get to see her……
