No because male & female are descriptions that will always be around , and we all do it to describe someone.

What if that person is offended by it?

Should the police not be held accountable like the rest of us?

What does this mean? Are people currently arrested for misgendering?

(And don't respond with examples of harassment or bullying as that's not the same).

They often lose their jobs over it.

Should police officers be treated the same.?

There's a difference between making a genuine mistake when referring to someone, similar to getting their name wrong, and doing it on purpose to harass them.

Don't be silly
You can't eliminate MALE & FEMALE pronouns, the person can be offended all they want. But if they're a suspect the police isn't going to know what their gender terms are right off the bat. It's about catching criminals etc.

What if they are just doing a random stop and search though..for nothing!!

When theybradio in to report they have stopped a male...for nothing!!!

It's not all high octane, speed chases where they shout IC 1 MALE ON THE RUN, into their radios.:joker:

When they stop you, for nothing...they are instantly harassing you, so to then assume your label preference is further harassment..

So should they then be held accountable?

What you're asking doesn't make any sense.

I imagine them stopping and searching someone "for nothing" is a bit more of the priority problem than referring to them with the correct pronouns.

Like I said I hardly think it matters when the priority is catching criminals or questioning potential suspects, you're creating problems where there isn't .

People have rights do they not?

Rights to be not stopped because they are young and black?..

I may add that the police have already been instructed to not genderise people in a memo sent to all forces.

You're just going off on a tangent now , racism has NOTHING to do with your original post. And it's not the same as identifying someone who looks like a man as MALE.

If you're so worried about this, then when or if you ever get questioned by the police to describe a suspect then I'm sure you'll say "well officer the person was a person with such and such hair colour, eye colour but I can't pinpoint their gender " .

Mistakes get made ,men get misgendered as female just for having longer hair and an androgynous face ,and women likewise for being Tom boys .

Its not about describing someone to an officer...its about the officer assuming you, to someone else over his radio.

If they just say male or female instead of man or woman, that'd sort it. Male and female aren't "genders", so it doesn't matter if the person identifies as something else.

If you ever get asked to identify or describe a potential criminal or suspect in an incident, what are you going to say then ? .

" Well officer I can't describe their gender as I don't want to offend them" ? .

Depends on the crime, if it's one against a large company, I will keep shtoom, quoting the fact I dknt want to offend that person.

If its rape or something slightly less serious than that I will just say male, i will say, "he was a black male officer, of youthful appearance"

Actually no because it is a visual description so they ARE actually noting the gender of the suspect, NOT the sex.

So it should technically be the other way around. They could say "man" or "woman" based on presentation, they actually do NOT know if the suspect is male or female. Unless they're naked. But then I suspect "they're running down the street naked" probably serves as a good enough description.
