He's almost the exact opposite of a pleb though?

Maybe the "professor" doesn't know what the word means, and he wouldn't need to look very far from a mirror to find a more fitting word for what Sunak is.

also ''performers going bankrupt'' is quite overreacting, since they still make some money through spotify streams

but i doubt this dude wouldn't know since he hasn't made music for many many years lol

+ some of the bigger artists also got side projects they make money with

Not going to lie, it took me a minute, at first I was thinking of Macklemore and wondered why an American was commenting, then I remembered that this is actually London Macklemore.

a lot of bands make their money from live performance and the only help they got from Sunak was him telling them they should retrain for another job.

The income from streaming services like spotify is abysmal. No-one could survive on that

That is a big part of the issue really, streaming lead to a shift in how musicians earn. It used to be from actual music sales, but more recently wide exposure (for free) has been key - building a large fanbase and then earning from merchandising and live ticket sales.

Honestly not a terrible model, in theory it IS far better for musicians to have their stuff out there "for free" and build an ever larger backing...

...unfortunately if you can't hold live events, it all falls appart.

I gave Rishi Sunak credit for the furlough scheme, especially at the time, but he does seem as odious as the other tories.

I think at the time it seemed like the furlough scheme was them being very generous. In hindsight - if they had an idea that things were going to go on as long as they have - it becomes more clear that they just (thankfully, to be fair) realised that it was going to be necessary. If they had thought it was going to be a month, even two or three months, I think they'd have just told people to tighten the belts and "make do", maybe a one-off stimulus half way through. But I think they realised it was going to be a long haul and that the economy would collapse if millions of people didn't have money for normal day-to-day purchases, rents, mortgages, bills etc.
