Olly Alexander fans have discussed wanting him as the next doctor and now it's become a "rumour".
It's a non story.

Please no. Can the doctor not just regenerate back into David Tennant. I'd like that sort of level actor/fame

Yeah anytime the press report that someone is in negotiations or whatever for the role, you can be sure he or she won't get it.
However he'd be a good choice just for the moaning :joker: some people would be triggered because he's a white male, others would be upset because he's gay. Both types of toxic fans deserve to be annoyed.

Him or Christopher Eccleston. He was incredible despite his limited appearance.

Presumably they'll lose a similar percentage of watchers as when they turned the Doctor in to a woman. Crack on, BBC...
it really doesnt matter who the actors are on Dr Who. The writing is so bad, it's unwatchable. They should get their priorities right

This.
The ratings haven't dropped because Jodie is a woman, they wouldn't drop because the actor was gay. They've dropped because it's badly written.
…maybe it’s just me and I don’t watch Dr Who anyway but I think he might be good in the part, I really like him….I keep thinking Gaylord Focker, though….

…I know and on a Sunday as well…Jesus, Mary and Joseph forgive me, please…(…actually I thought it was because someone mentioned ‘Lord’ and my thoughts connects strangely…but actually I can’t see that they did, it was all me and my homophobic head…)…
….I’m loving Ollie on Googlebox atm……he can play every part in every series for me and it wouldn’t be too much Ollie…

Oh I thought it came from Timelord. :smug:
Oh I thought it came from Timelord. :smug:
…oh maybe it did connect from that …or just my homophobic-ness…I’m never completely sure myself…
I've not watched for a few years now. Capaldi really damaged the brand by being the dr for way too long tbh
that being said, his final series with Bill was probably his best
Marsh.

Didn't Capaldi have the shortest tenure? :skull:
2 with that Clara who was just awful
It’s this guy or nothing .. I have very poor imagination so the idea of someone changing into someone else is a non starter .

I liked Clara but I was utterly sick of her by Capaldi. I loved Bill though, wish her and Twelve were still there...

he had 3 I think
No, but episode-wise, his was the shortest tenure.

I would imagine bringing that actor back from the dead would be a bigger problem for your imagination.

oh im not sure.. each of his eps felt about 7 hours long

He was a good Doctor though, despite his less than ideal companion and some of the writing. :nono:
There's some cracking stand alone eps.
tbf his time would've been better if clara hadn't been there

What point are you trying to make, exactly? That the Doctor shouldn’t be played by a gay actor?
Glenn.

I have zero issue with a gay actor playing the Doctor but one that could actually act would be nice.

The issue isn’t that they cast a woman or even that the writing was “bad” per se - some of it was fine - the issue is that they dumbed it down. They dumbed down the character (which makes no sense and also, doing it for the first female doctor is obviously a ridiculous call) and dumbed down the show in general, so think to try to go back to appealing to a younger audience, which is no longer interested in broadcast television. It had a younger audience of kids, teens and young adults in 2005. That audience is now in their 20’s to 40’s. If anything they’d get a better response by exploring some MORE mature themes, not by going back to CBBC style.
On the thread topic though… there is ample evidence that The Doctor/time lords are both sexless and without sexual preference. Tad they’ve only shown male doctors with an interest in females “openly” that’s true… but there were plenty of indications that all of the male doctors of the modern era (Eccleson, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi) were much like Flasher Jack Harkness - “omnisexual” (men, women, aliens, whatever).
So when people say he’d be the first “gay” Doctor… I suspect they mean he’d be the first doctor in an an unambiguously gay relationship, or the first played by a gay actor.
I mean it’s not like Tennant and Smith were exactly butch .
I think of all the doctors going right back to the beginning, eccleston is the most "butch" of them all and even then he wasn't really butch at all . They have never done a hunky doctor ... the dominant feature was always supposed to be intelligence

I've got to agree with this. It's felt lately like every story is a chance for them to make some preachy statement to educate us all. Bored with it...
