I watched last nights documentary with my son - he was amazed and horrified by the footage. The sight of the towers falling is still unbelievable all these years on :sad:

I watched a documentary a couple of nights ago. The firemen and cops were inside the entrance of one of the towers and there was a loud thumping noise every so often. One of them said it was the sound of the bodies hitting when people had jumped. Just harrowing...

I too have been to the Memorial in NY...so emotional. I also visited NY when the Twin Towers stood high and proud and dominated the NY skyline that will never be the same again.

Every living president, bar Jimmy Carter who is 96 years old and suffers with ill health, was at some kind of memorial for 9/11 yesterday. Most of the presidents were at one memorial, and Bush attended one for Flight 93, but the only president that wasn't at any memorials (and didn't have highly advanced age and ill health as an excuse) was Trump.

He isn't bothered about such things unless it benefits him, he'd rather campaign to racist cops than honour the dead.

That moment and their terrified reaction is very hard to watch, like a punch in the stomach. Really chilling.

Seeing the footage brings back how horrible it was. I saw a drama-documentary some years ago about United 93, the flight that was downed by the passengers fighting back, and it was really emotional hearing them make phone calls to their loved ones.

After 21 years, justice has yet to be attained in the case against the plotters of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and a year of plea negotiations and canceled hearings at Guantanamo Bay has pushed any potential trial back even further .

Negotiations between prosecutors and defense attorneys at Guantanamo Bay could reportedly result in guilty plea deals in which the death penalty is taken off the table for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his four co-defendants. Top Republicans have criticized any such possibility.

In the more than two decades since the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, the five men said to be responsible for the planning and execution of the plot have yet to stand trial.

One key unresolved question is the admissibility of confessions obtained by the FBI after the CIA subjected them to “enhanced interrogation techniques” — called “torture” by some.

“At a bare minimum, we are at least one year away from trial,” Air Force Col. Matthew McCall, the presiding judge for the 9/11 case, said in September 2021, shortly after taking over the case . Hearings were held around the 20th anniversary of the attacks last year, but the case has made little pretrial progress since then. The co-defendants appeared in court a year ago for the first time since February 2020 due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic . There were also pretrial hearings held in November 2021, but no 9/11-related hearings since then.

McCall said in late August that he would travel to Guantanamo Bay the final week of September “to convene in open, closed, or ex parte sessions as needed.”

The military commissions calendar shows that 9/11-related hearings were canceled in January, March, May, June, July, and September. There are pretrial hearings canceled in October and scheduled in November.

The delays came as leading Republicans slammed any effort to take capital punishment off the table for Mohammed and his co-defendants.

“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his accomplices planned the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks [and are] responsible for the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans,” Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) told the Washington Examiner in March. “It is unconscionable that military prosecutors would even entertain the idea of a plea agreement that removed the possibility of the death penalty.”

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told the Washington Examiner: "If this case doesn't justify the death penalty, what does?"

Mohammed, dubbed "KSM" and described as “the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks” in the 9/11 Commission Report, was a close ally of Osama bin Laden and was repeatedly waterboarded in numerous sessions while in U.S. custody. Mohammed is being tried alongside four co-defendants: his nephew, Ammar al Baluchi, who sent money transfers to 9/11 hijackers inside the United States; alleged hijacking trainer Walid bin Attash; 9/11 facilitator Ramzi bin al Shibh; and al Qaeda money man Mustafa al Hawsawi.

The delay comes as the Biden administration has continued to say it wants to shut down detainee operations at Guantanamo Bay. Are you referring to Bush ? . He was in a classroom in a school ..when he was told about the 9/11 attack and he just sat there .

There's 2 theory's on this
He either already knew this would happen
Or there was a sense of not wanting to panic the children.

Either way I still find his reaction ODD , as in that moment surely you'd still react . I understand the disbelief & not knowing what to do . But no matter what Bush Jnr always looked confused when he was president.

So depending on whether you believe the conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11 or not . If you'd just been told that they'd been a 'terrorist attack ' on the world trade centre, and you're the president of the United States .....would you rush out the class room making phone calls . Or would you still try and stay calm just because you're in a room full of children? .

Like I said I think he purposely stayed mellow as not to worry the children, and to find out more information on the attack . But going by Bush's behaviour overall when he was president , i don't know what was going through his head . Obviously it would be a difficult & horrible thing to process whoever was told let alone the president.

I don't think he's ever acknowledged the anniversary of 9/11 . As he has zero compassion . He made Bush look almost competent.

A sad day for so many people. I’ve watched a lot of documentaries and amateur footage regarding 9/11 over the years but one thing that I find really sad is when watching the live footage on the news channels. A lot of people initially thought it was just an accident and it wasn’t terror related until you see that 2nd plane hit the South Tower and it dawns on people what is actually happening.

I was out of work at living at my mothers at the time. I remember waking up and saying to my mother "What's happened?" It's as though I dreamt it as it was happening (I felt something had happened as I woke up, I didn't know what). I can't remember whether I slept with my TV on and heard the commentary in my sleep. I then turned the TV on and within seconds of doing so the second plane happened live.

I just sat there watching it unfold with a cup of tea and a bacon Banjo.

That also tells you I was a late night pot head in those days. Because it was pretty much lunch time in the UK.
