They're just a bunch of snowflakes who don't want to be told that what they are saying does have consequences.

Pretty much, none are bigger snowflakes than the right wing.
I'm sure they like this new law for now until they realize the people they are upset by cannot be banned either.

https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/9/22661626/texas-social-media-law-hb-20-signed-greg-abbott
So basically, Texas is still off it's medication and they've written a law to make it so that someone can't be banned from a social media platform for their 'viewpoints'. It's completely unenforceable since most Social Networks do not call Texas home, but essentially it's a law that would basically allow misinformation and bigotry to run unchecked if it was in any way enforceable.
It's quite funny, Every conservative acts like it's a business' right to deny custom to gay people if they want a cake made but they can't stand the thought of Right Wingers being held accountable for their actions and being booted off of social media platforms that are run by businesses. As always, the right wingers don't understand that opinions come with consequences. A person who voiced support for gay rights or for better treatment for black people a few decades ago would place themselves at risk with these same people who can't stand that they might be banned from a private platform for being a bit of a racist.
No one had an issue when Twitter decided to do this to people like Trump or Hopkins, why the issue now it Texas does similar. Both infringe on free speech.
Also going to an extremely known religious business and asking for them to make a gay wedding cake is asking for trouble, why would you go to a business that doesn’t share your views? It’s ludicrous on both sides. Surely you would want to support other local businesses that may be struggling rather than trying to make a point rather than rightfully looking like an idiot.
Texas is a fantastic place and I can’t wait to go back next year, got it all booked in now.

Whenever i see the word "bigot" it reminds me of when a lady collared Gordon Brown PM and asked him a legitimate question about immigration. He could not answer and was caught out - when back in his car and not knowing he was miced up he called her a bigot to make himself feel superior and better for being exposed
Classic moment and very telling

the fun play is to accuse the right as snowflakes to deflect away from why the term was coined
ie the woke left and their VS vanity

very tellingI'm gonna ask the same questions as Remy cuz even though you think so the answer is not in your post.
ITs quite telling that you associate the word with that one incident. You're gonna have to explain. Do you not know what the word bigot actually means? :conf::conf:
I'm not expecting a reply cuz I dont think you actually know what you're talking about or trying to say.

Twitter deciding what they will and will not allow on twitter, THEIR OWN platform is not the same as Texas trying to pass a law on "social media" which they do not own.
A very simple distinction.

Again with Texas. Why is the West always the focus of this kind of story? That's my main question.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world...
Yet year after year, racist mockery and derogatory language against Afro/black Arabs and black African migrants make it to the TV screens of millions of Arab families gathered to enjoy TV series produced especially for Ramadan.
This year’s Ramadan TV content failed to “disappoint” in this regard.
The Egyptian comedy series “Azmi we Ashgan” (Azmi and Ashgan) created by controversial Egyptian producer Ahmed el-Sobki, featured the lead actors donning blackface repeatedly throughout the series, as well as the use of racist language (including the use of the n-word) and the portrayal of black people as servants who speak in broken Arabic and practise sorcery.
The Kuwaiti comedy series “Block Ghashmara” (The block of jokes), on the other hand, dedicated a whole episode to actors in blackface portraying Sudanese people as lazy and cynical.

It's almost like people can't read different news and react to them in the same day.

I do agree that the USA is a country we're more likely to follow than the likes of Saudi Arabia, but Texas is a bit of a random place to get a hate-boner over, I can think of worse places to sit around googling to get angry about :joker:
That said, the subject of the thread sounds like it's First Amendment inspired, which we don't have. I can't see our government following in these particular footsteps.

Of course it won't  when people get investigated by the police for "misgendering" and someone got arrested for teaching a dog to raise its paw, the UK isn't about to let things go on social media :joker:

Hell, Tories are already trying to limit who can vote by trying to make it so you need photo ID to vote. It doesn't make voting any 'safer' (which is a false fear to begin with), but it does limit certain people from voting.
Encouraging people to have proper ID is a good thing, most jobs (and benefits) require identification. And if the UK is gonna follow America with voter ID laws, they'll also provide free valid ID, so the only people being limited will be those who don't bother to get it.

Personally I don't think that you should have to have photo ID to vote.
