Me and my wife are watching this because my daughter (12) really wants to watch it but I don't think it's appropriate for her at all. I've no particular aversion to her seeing violence BUT in my opinion it has to be contextual and I don't think she could possibly understand the underlying themes of the show (a critique of capitalism, themes of gambling addiction, loan sharks, financial anxiety etc.) so from her perspective it would just be violence for the sake of it. She's ****ing furious we haven't let her watch it though.
Great show (for adults) though :joker:.

I did the same over the weekend.
It takes a lot for me to get so invested - but loved it.
Hope they do a second series

We finished this last night too (watched three episodes yesterday - the other two during a 2 hour "lunch break" when we were both meant to be WFH :joker: ). Dodgy acting from the English-voiced characters aside, it was excellent start to finish. I called one or two of the twists but that's because I watch too much telly :joker:. Massive rule of television and movies - "no body no death" so;
I knew 001 wasn't dead because they panned away from his death, on a show that has no issues showing violence. And then when the "frontman" mentioned that "the host" wasn't joining them it was fairly obvious that the host was 001. Following the same rule - I expect the detective will be back in S2, because whilst surviving that fall seems unlikely, if they weren't planning a return he'd have been shot in the head not the shoulder.
The other one I called early was The Frontman being the detective's missing brother, which I think became genuinely obvious fairly quickly, but as soon as the detective got there I was saying "I bet his brother is on the staff, not a contestant/dead".
But yeah - very compelling viewing.
Although one other thing...
That red hair at the end is inexplicable. I know it's meant to be symbolic but he looks ridiculous and I nearly drowned on my hot chocolate. He looks like a teacher my daughter had years ago :joker: ... a woman in her mid 50's.

If you don't like this Show Nicky then you might prefer Future Diary.
I haven't seen Squid Game yet, I'm hoping that it lives up to it's hype and that it's not another Stranger Things (no offence Strictly Jake) but that was such an average Show imo, especially when compared to it's popularity.

I've just started it 2 nights ago, loving it, it's incredible! Just finished episode 6. Felt really sorry for Abdul Ali. His ''friend'' took the piss taking advantage of him.

I've finally got around to watching the pilot.
So far pilot for pilot I feel that Alice In Borderland had the much better pilot as it establishes the game and the supporting characters much better imo, and personally I feel like Arisu has started off as the stronger lead.
Squid Game imo picked up in the last 10-15 minutes of the episode, so hopefully it'll pick up from there for me, plus build on it significantly.
In fairness to Squid Game though, it's first episode was better than Yellowstone, Midnight Mass, Sweet Tooth or The Witcher Season 2's first episodes, which have all been the live action Shows that I've seen recently away from Alice In Borderland & Squid Game itself.

Easy twist to figure out..but a joyful journey.

I quit the Show after episode 2.
It's just a Drama masquerading as a Death Game Show imo, and I never understand why Shows do stuff like that because the Show would be so much better just embracing it's Drama side (as that's clearly what it wants to be) but instead is having to pretend that it has these death game components which makes the Drama side look silly imo.
I get that the Show is a huge hit so the writers won't care, but I'm gonna predict that it's second Season will go the way of TWD, Heroes & The Sinner where some people start questioning the quality of an already dodgy product imo.

TWD was great all the way up to S4 and I still enjoy it to be fair, even if it is a little sillier now and basically Superheroes vs Zombies :joker:.
I don't see how anyone could say that S2 highlighted an "already dodgy product" though, S2 was great and S1 was iconic for the time. I think everyone has become a bit "zombied out" since then but on release TWD S1 was EASILY top-tier television.

Back on the topic of Squid Game... we decided to let my daughter watch the first episode. She asked again and it bizarrely sort of highlighted just how much the first 6 months of high school has changed her. We were like "Nah no chance" just a few months back when it was released... and then this time we could barely remember why we were all that bothered?
As predicted (we told her it wasn't all fun 'n' bloody games and that the rest would go over her head) - she found the actual plotline boring and didn't even bother with the 2nd episode :joker:

A lot of people at the time were complaining that Season 2 had pacing issues on the farm, and hated Lori as a character, two aspects (pacing issues & Lori) that were very prominent issues in the first Season as well, but imo people were so excited about a Zombie Show actually existing that people initially ignored it's flaws.
Having said that though I'd still take TWD over some of the Shows that I'm seeing lately though as at least it's style creates discussion, Shows like Squid Game, Yellowstone & Midnight Mass are hard to even stay awake to sit through imo.:joker:

I'd agree that Lori wasn't a great character, it's also had pacing issues all the way through but that's a frequent issue with broadcast shows, another thing that works much better with "full season drop" streaming, the main plotlines can be better paced across the episode run and you end up with fewer "filler" episodes.
