Thank god….they are a nightmare. To think I spent 3 years rerouting to and from Heathrow for work whilst they rebuilt the M3 into an UNSAFE motorway…:fist:

Sadly not yet Halted
until Government confirms it.

They're halting them to rethink.

Data actually shows they are safer. Even having a hard shoulder there have been deaths. People don't concentrate enough and are too distracted.

The fact some people don't know what a red X means in a lane is just astonishing and they should have their licensed removed immediately

Been a terrible idea from the start in my view.

The problem of course is people... they'll use the empty lane even when it's not open for use, they won't stick to the dynamic speed limits or will forget they exist, etc...

No
The Transport Private Company
set up Alerts if a car breaks down
that no one notices

Also, those Alerts are not working

Loads are Dead
because the Lorry or Car goes into them

loads are dead also be cause they never put hazards on etc or as one HGV driver says stand in front or behind the car when you should be behind the barrier, that said I think the idea is horrific and it must be terrifying to break down on one

we broke down coming home from the airport once, horrible and I was in sandals and ants were biting my feet ...and the guy who turned up at 2am to rescue us wouldn't have been out of place in a horror movie

with the tech that new cars have, people just shouldnt be getting in to accidents the way they used to. It will take a few years until it filters through to the majority of cars on the road, but still, every year, the roads are becoming safer

Some have put hazard lights
on but still a Lorry or Car went into them

The MPs do nothing but talk on it.
No changes.

But Electronic Lights before lanes - FAULTY

[Deadly safety flaws mean the construction
of smart motorways must be halted,
MPs say today. In a damning report,
they accuse transport chiefs and civil servants
of pressing ahead with the roads
despite 'major concerns']

I was amazed to learn that New Labour
started Smart Motorways in 2006.

Prime Minister Sunak has agreed to stop building new ones
but the one's already running,
He claims, will be made safer?
