The dog had bitten someone previously. Should have been muzzled and never around children.
Poor families - something they will never get over.

It was a poor dog arista, one that was probably used and as others have said never trained and probably never really loved ,but we don't know he full circumstances do we and what led up to it ,so imo, its a poor dog , it should never have happened and if as Annie said it had bitten before it should never have been in that enviroment, as I said sad all round.

Why would you get a dog like that and then not take the precautions to prevent something liek this? The owners are irresponsible ****ers. Should serve jail time tbh. They put their kids and a poor animal at risk

I have what I suppose could be deemed as one of this type of dog, she’s a big Bulldog x another type of Bulldog with Staffy and Boxer somewhere in her down the line and all sorts we suspect. A very imposing, strong, muscular, athletic, large dog.
She’s the sweetest and most gentle, loving dog we’ve ever had. She’s 11 next week and has never once growled or shown aggressive behaviour or tendencies, not to humans, other dogs, cats or other. Fantastic with kids especially, she adores my little niece and her friends when they come to play too.
Maybe we’re just lucky but I hate seeing dogs LIKE HER getting a bad rep because of irresponsible owners.
That poor child. RIP. Absolutely heartbreaking.
This is why we are not allowed tigers or lions.

Its like saying a race of people are dangerous or pro boxers or black belts are dangerous. Mistreat a child, show it no love and it could grow up to be a serial killer or a rapist - some dont some do.
Its not the dog its how its treated
However, because large and powerful dogs are attractive to poorly educated, poorly brought up feral humans (not you) they should be prevented from owning such dogs (or indeed any dog). Owning a dog or any animal should be much harder to do than it is currently.

Completely agree with you.
I really wish they’d bring in a licensing system for owning dogs. How feasible that’d be I don’t know but at least then you’d have to register what animals are at your address and their breeds etc. Might help curb the problem just a little bit.
Also completely 100% ban the sale of dogs of any age online.

Horrible situation , and I agree.
A dog like that should not be around children or even other people in general if it's that violent.
It's cost them big time .

Myth.
The American Pitbull Terrier was shown to have the lowest bite force when contended against the German Shepherd and Rottweiler. However, the dogs had an average bite force of 320 pounds of pressure. Pitbulls, like all large dogs, are strong, and equipped to cause damage – just not to the point of being particularly dangerous compared to dogs of the same size.
The idea that a pitbull’s jaw locks, however, is completely false. No breed of dog has any special jaw mechanism that makes it impossible for them to let go.

The myth that it's all down to training and that temperament is not linked to breed needs to be put to bed to be honest... aspects of temperament absolutely ARE linked to breed. Having only had various terriers growing up and having a floppy Labrador now has really illustrated that for me.
Of course any breed can be dangerous if they've been badly mistreated and any breed can be safe if they've been very very well handled but most dog owners fall in the middle - not abusive to their animals but not professional dog handlers - and with that in mind I think there should be stricter rules on breeds that are appropriate to keep as pets. In all honesty, I can see no really compelling argument for not breeding out dog breeds who aren't particularly suitable domestic pets and have no other utility. It's not "cruel" to simply stop breeding them. I'm not saying anything has to happen to the ones that already exist. But dogs only live 15 years or so, it wouldn't take long at all to make a breed functionally extinct.
i agree, statistically, it's a very defined group of breeds that cause issues. We have all known it for decades, and yet nothing is ever really done about it. That has to change. I'm not suggesting we put down all dangerous breeds now, but a dogs lifespan is short enough for the problem to be addressed in a decade or so without forcing owners to put their pets down

We need radical changes in the way we buy and own dogs. I think, if you are not a registered, regularly checked breeder then you should be able to charge no more than £50 for a puppy. And if you do own a dog, you have to have a licence. It should not be possible for a dog like that to have been homed in a place like that.

I don't think they're the most likely to attack though but they're certainly the most likely to do serious damage or cause death because of their size and strength. Chihuahuas are notoriously aggressive dogs but they're really unlikely to cause much damage or become uncontrollable, actually just did a google to check and yep as i thought the little ****ers are top of the aggressive list (I reckon I could take 4 of them...........I'll let you guess which :p )
1. Chihuahua
2. Dachshund
3 .Chow Chow
4. Doberman Pinscher
5. Dalmatian
6. Rottweiler
7. Jack Russell Terrier
8. German Shepherd
9. American Staffordshire/Pit Bull Terrier
10. Siberian Husky
