[Expected to arrive in Melbourne on Wednesday night]

[Novak Djokovic will be "on the next plane home"
if he is unable to provide "acceptable proof"
for a COVID vaccination exemption to
play at the Australian Open,
the country's prime minister has warned.
Australians have called the decision
to give the tennis star a medical
exemption to enter the
country "a slap in the face" after they
endured months of harsh lockdowns.
The number-one ranked player has
repeatedly refused to say whether he
has been jabbed against COVID-19,
and his participation in the Australian Open
was in doubt owing to the
country's strict vaccination requirements.]

What's wrong with just Djokovic? Which is what he was known as this time last year.

This.

I find Djokovic entertaining with his outbursts, but a country shouldn't be changing their usual protocols for him.

If the vaccine doesn't stop you from catching and spreading, which we know it doesn't then what is the issue here with his case? He's equally as likely to catch or spread as a vaccinated tennis player.

Make it make sense because right now it doesn't.

Having read the article it looks a little conflicting as the PM wants to see what his exemption is but the organisers say he has done.....not sure what the situation is but hopefully its all legit and he gets to play. I don't think he'll have a great reception from the Aussies though unless he says what his exemption is. They have experienced the most draconian lock down

World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic's entry to Australia has been delayed over an issue with his visa.

The player arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday, where authorities noticed that his team had made a mistake on his application.

Djokovic is due to play in the Australian Open, after being exempted from vaccination rules.

But his team had not requested a visa that permits medical exemptions for being unvaccinated.

All players and staff at the tournament must be vaccinated or have an exemption granted by an expert independent panel.

Djokovic arrived in Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport on Wednesday and is awaiting a decision. He has not spoken about his vaccination status, but last year he said he was "opposed to vaccination".

The country's border force had sought clarification from the Victorian state government about his visa application, the Melbourne-based Age newspaper reports.

But state government Minister Jaala Pulford tweeted that his application would not be supported. Visa approvals were a matter for the federal government, she added.

Letting him get to Melbourne and then cancelling the visa is a total farce as well

that's standard practice in australia, there is a tv series about the border force and they are very strict and cancelled peoples visas regularly on arrival, and that was before the pandemic

If the vaccine doesn't stop you from catching and spreading

It significantly reduces the likelihood of catching and spreading Covid.

which we know it doesn't

No we don't. We know it significantly reduces the likelihood of catching and spreading Covid.

then what is the issue here with his case?

He isn't vaccinated, which significantly increases the likelihood of him catching and spreading Covid, and is refusing to provide valid exemption documents.

He's equally as likely to catch or spread as a vaccinated tennis player.

No he isn't. He's more likely to catch & spread it.

Make it make sense because right now it doesn't.

It makes sense because being vaccinated significantly reduces the likelihood of catching and spreading Covid.

But you don't want anyone to "make it make sense" because you've asked the same question, and been given the same answer, multiple times before, and have ignored it each time.

I personally agree with you that Djokovic should be allowed to play if he wants to.

However for that to happen, Australia would have to go more lenient on it's own civilians for being unvaccinated going forward, which it's clear that the Australian Government doesn't want to relinquish it's power that it's currently got over it's people.

'The world has been suffering enough. Get vaccinated. If he wanted, he would
playing here in Australia without problems,' the world number six said.

'I went through COVID. I have been vaccinated twice. If you do this, you don't
have any problem to play here. That's the only clear thing.

'The rest of the things, I don't want to have or to give to you an opinion that I

'The only for me clear thing is if you are vaccinated, you can play in the

his lawyers are saying he already had covid, but the aussie PM said previously

Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison denied Djokovic was being singled out and said no-one was above the country's rules. But he added that Djokovic's stance on vaccination had drawn attention.

"When you get people making public statements - of what they say they have, and what they are going to do, and what their claims are - well they draw significant attention to themselves," Mr Morrison told reporters.

Though Djokovic's reason for an exemption has not been disclosed, Mr Morrison said contracting Covid-19 in the past six months was not among federal criteria for one.

You have EVERY right to an opinion. People have the right to ask you about it.

Novak shouldn't be bullied into anything....he kust needs to be transparent and at this moment he needs to abide by laws set by countries.

If he doesn't want the vax, fair play to him but like anyone else who hasn't taken it, he will need to prove that he is exempt and for that to be the truth.

He is a fantastic tennis player, bit of a strange guy.imo, but nothing can ever take away his talent

Sadly the cheats have better ‘chemists’ than the governing bodies do .. there’s more money in it for them going that route

One of our best ever athletes never tested positive yet his coach / trainer had been had been banned for giving his athletes enhancing drugs - the majority of his other athletes had also been caught and banned.

He was ‘advised’ to sever all connections with his dodgy coach but he remained with him till he retired .

So, the fundamental issue of him not being vaccinated remains, and it's likely he will still be deported.

Additionally, he is now going to have issues wherever he goes to play. France wont let him in for example, its unlikely the UK would let him in either, so thats 2 majors right there

What a joker .. he’d make a great politician.

Djokovic also admitted making a false declaration on his travel form prior to entering Australia and said his team has provided additional information to authorities.
He said his agent had made a mistake when filling in a section of the form that covered his recent travel history. The form stated that he had not travelled in the 14 days before his arrival in Australia.
But recent reports suggest the 34-year-old had travelled to Serbia and then to Spain prior to the trip.
"My agent sincerely apologises for the administrative mistake in ticking the incorrect box," he wrote. "This was a human error and certainly not deliberate."

Novak Djokovic: Tennis star Detained ahead of deportation appeal

[Novak Djokovic has been detained in Australia
ahead of a court hearing that will determine
whether the tennis star can stay in
the country unvaccinated.

The Serbian faces deportation after his visa was
cancelled for a second time,
with the government labelling the 34-year-old
a threat to the public.

His lawyers are appealing against what they called
an "irrational" judgement,
with the hearing due on Sunday.

Djokovic, however, is still scheduled to play
the Australian Open on Monday.
If he were to win the tournament for a tenth time,
he would become the most successful
men's tennis player in the history of the sport.

But Sunday's hearing, which has
been scheduled for 09:30 local time (22:30 GMT on Saturday)
is crucial if Djokovic is to be able to
defend his title just hours later.

If he loses the appeal, the world men's tennis number
one faces deportation and a three-year visa ban.]

he should understand by now that Australia doesn't want him there. The government and the general population. He won the last case on a technicality, and in this case he lied on his visa application, so to me that is a similar level of technicality to throw him back out again. He cant have it both ways

I'm pleased at this outcome overall.

I know this is a big tournament and a possible record breaking one for him if he'd won it too.
Plus it's the first grand slam so had he won it, he'd have had a chance to do all the grand slam tournaments in the same year.

As he needs to abide by the rules of tennis however, he should ensure he abides by the rules and conditions of entry to other Nations equally.

Salvatore Caruso replaces Novak Djokovic in australian open

Reigning Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic's dramatic exit from the Australian Open 2022 has opened gates for the 29-year-old Italian tennis player Salvatore Caruso.

World number one tennis player and the defending Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic's sudden exit from the Australian Open 2022 draw has given Italy's professional tennis player Salvatore Caruso an opportunity.

After Novak lost his legal battle to avoid deportation from Australia, Caruso was announced as his late replacement. The 29-year-old Italian is being termed as the "lucky loser" by netizens across several social media platforms. Caruso has never achieved a ranking higher than 76 in world tennis.

He earned his career-best ranking in 2020. He was competing in a lower-level tennis tournament in Bendigo just outside of Melbourne last week and was defeated in the semis.

Now that the world number one is officially out of the tournament, Caruso will take his place and battle against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic on Show Court 2 instead of the Rod Laver Arena where the game was originally scheduled to be played.

The Rod Laver Arena will now see the clash between the world number three German tennis star Alexander Zverev and Daniel Altmaier on Monday night immediately after the match between local favourite and women's world number one Ash Barty and Lesia Tsurenko.

Salvatore Caruso was born on December 15, in 1992, at Avola, Sicily, in Italy. Before trying a hand at professional tennis, Caruso wanted to become a Formula 1 driver. Caruso turned a professional back in the year 2010 and is currently ranked 150 in the world.

His hopes of earning a direct entry into the Australian Open 2022 were ended during the final stage of the qualifiers after his loss (6-4 6-3) to the Japanese tennis player Taro Daniel.

Well that’s another story completely ;)

Djokovic went from a very good player to an unbelievably amazing player in a very short period of time ..

Citing the exclusion of gluten as the reason !!

I have grave doubts but given that the wealthy athletes have better chemists than the drug testing people .. we will never know !

##

In 2010, Dr Igor Cetojevic performed a simple but unscientific test on Novak Djokovic. He asked him to hold a slice of bread against his stomach and raise his other arm. The arm felt weak. Djokovic went gluten free and introduced several mindfulness routines to his methods
