Neil Young demanded Spotify remove his music from their streaming platform
The Heart of Gold songwriter said decision was over vaccine 'disinformation being spread' and pointed out The Joe Rogan Experience podcast
In a letter to his manager and record label the singer wrote: 'They can have Rogan or Young. Not both'
Rogan has a $100m deal with Spotify giving them exclusive rights to his show
He has recently been criticised for views on Covid vaccines
Last month, 270 professionals, including 87 medical experts, urged Spotify to adopt a misinformation policy, calling Rogan a 'menace to public health'

Young, who is married Blade Runner actress Daryl Hannah , added: 'I want
you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their
platform … They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.

I've not listened to or watched Rogan in years so I don't know exactly what he's been saying, but a bit of scepticism in following orders isn't exactly a bad thing, especially when it comes to a vaccine which os less than a few years old...

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘express concerns to Spotify’ following Joe Rogan controversy
Couple said they hope platform makes changes ‘to help address this public health crisis’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have called out Spotify for hosting “disinformation” via Joe Rogan’s podcast.
The couple, who have a deal with the company worth a reported £18m, released a statement on Sunday (30 January), in which they said they have spoken to the music platform’s bosses about their worries.
Rogan has been heavily criticised for his controversial views on the Covid-19 vaccine, with many saying he’s using his popular podcast, titled The Joe Rogan Experience, to spread false details.
This week, musician Neil Young led the charge to oppose Rogan and his views by asking Spotify to remove his music from the platform. Joni Mitchell and Crazy Horse guitarist Nils Lofgren followed suit.
In a statement, Harry and Meghan said they have been combatting Spotify’s decision to host such information since April 2021.

“Since the inception of [their non-profit organisation] Archewell, we have worked to address the real-time global misinformation crisis,” they said.
“Hundreds of millions of people are affected by the serious harms of mis- and disinformation every day.
“Last April, our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all too real consequences of Covid misinformation on its platform.
“We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis.
“We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.”
Their statement follows Young’s ultimatum, which saw him state: “I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform … They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”

Young said Rogan’s podcast was spreading “false information” about Covid-19 vaccines that was “potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them”.
The Independent has contacted Spotify for comment

I don't know what Joe Rogan has done or said regarding vaccvine. But it looks to me like he's over the target (on the money) otherwise there wouldn't be a big deal being made of it.

If he's wrong then OK, he's wrong, however he's entitled to have his opinion. All this attempt to cancel him to shut him up says he's likely correct.

Biggest podcast draw so I guess you could technically argue the exclusivity comes into play... but spotify's biggest draw (by far) is still as a music service and their subscriber base wouldn't drop all that significantly even if they had no podcasts at all. The issue they'd have rather than him being a draw, is a potential boycott if they were to can his podcast.

Seems like a sensible middle ground to me. Point out that Rogan's opinion is a layperson's opinion and not backed by science/he has no more knowledge of this than any bloke in the street. Because of course the real issue isn't what he's saying - it's that people idolise celebrities and take their word as having "more weight" than other people's when they simply don't (unless that person has actual professional experience or qualifications in that area).

Thanks. I don't agree with him but that's just his opinion on it at the end of the day. I've said many times I'm pro the vaccine but I'm very anti this militant attitude towards people getting it and trying to silence anyone who says anything other than the vaccine is amazing and everyone should get it. It's not just this topic that people are acting like this over either, it's a weird Cult-ish era we're in where everyone has to follow the "accepted" opinions or you're public enemy number 1 and getting shut down (or trying to get shut down at least)

I agree, I would probably feel differently if it was like for example measles and the case that vaccination significantly impacts or even halts transmission rates. I still would never see it mandatory (I wouldn't advocate for the measles vaccine being mandatory) but I would understand the idea of shutting down misinformation for the good of public health.

As things stand with Omicron, the data shows time and time again that vaccination drastically cuts the risk of severe illness but NOT of catching and transmitting the virus ... which makes it much more a case of (for me) individual choice. Not taking it would be a STUPID choice but not a public health hazard.

At least Boris and Whitty did not put out adverts saying:

“If you go out you can spread it, people will die.”

scaring people into being pathologically against people who are unvaccinated thinking its them what kills people

oh wait they did....

Government nudge unit ‘used grossly unethical tactics to scare public into Covid compliance’

MPs launch investigation after psychologists criticise totalitarian tactics of ‘deploying
fear, shame and scapegoating’ during pandemic

The Government’s “grossly unethical” uses of its “nudge unit” inflated fear
among the public during the Covid pandemic, psychologists have said -
prompting MPs to launch an investigation into scare adverts.

A group of psychologists have written to Parliament’s Public Administration
and Constitutional Affairs Committee, warning that a team of civil servants
dedicated to “nudging” public behaviour during the pandemic were
unaccountable and unethical.

The letter’s 40 professional signatories - led by Dr Gary Sidley, a retired
clinical psychologist - said they opposed the use of dramatic adverts, which
included slogans such as: “If you go out you can spread it, people will die.”

Personally I believe that anybody trying to cancel someone over Social Media should be banned from the platform, as nine times out of ten it can lead to bullying, harassment & even trying to harm a person's future job prospects.

People really need to start getting back into the mindset of accepting different opinions and debating those different opinions.

And I stand by this opinion even if Joe Rogan turns out to be completely wrong.

This.

Plus the Vaccine is brand new in Medical terms, so it's good that people are at least a little bit cautious about it before just blindly accepting/forcing people to have it.

Personally I think the Vaccine is safe (or mostly safe at least) but I can understand people's paranoia with the fact that the leaders covered up Covid existing for months, plus the WHO lying about how infectious Covid actually is once the Governments generously told us that it exists.

My point basically being can we trust anyone when it comes to Covid related matters?

There aren't unlimited supplies of the vaccine, so it's not unreasonable to suggest that people who are statistically likely to not get too I'll from the virus should take a backseat to those who would.
