It sounds like a joke and - whilst it obviously is not an actual rape - sexual harassment online is no joke at all... Nor is the concerning mindset of the men doing it (or their comments).

To put it another way, I don't think many people would find it "funny" if they found out a female member here was being sexually harassed or having rape "jokes" made at them over PM... Nor would (most) people say things like "if you're that bothered just log off". I hope.

But it's something that can be done in the game, right? With PMs you can write anything z because it's done by a keyboard, but what you can do in a computer game is pre-determined. It's not really the same as "actual" online harassment, distasteful as it may have been. It was just one 3D model interacting with another.

Metaverse is VR so your avatar basically moves as you do, and it's live voice chat. If sexual harassment is possible with a typed message, it's definitely possible with a microphone!

people are not really understanding what virtual/augmented reality is. It's real people interacting with other real people within an artificial reality. They are not subject to the same constraints that apply in a "traditional" game

Indeed, it's not that there's an "option" or a button you would press, it's not characters on a screen with a controller, people just move how they want and say what they want...

And obviously there's not nudity or actual visible sexual acts going on, it's people "acting them out" and saying explicit/violent things.
