View Full Version : What time do you start drinking on landmark occasions (e.g., weekends, Christmas)?

Are you the sort of person who can work your way through two bottles of Lambrini and Buck’s Fizz each with it without particular occasion (aka, on a garden-variety Saturday morning in March as well as Christmas morning, ‘just because’) or do you hold off until (well) after noon?

Every one of those options mean you have a problem with alcohol.

I only have alcohol during the day if I go out for a special lunch
I usually start after I've watched an episode of Scooby Doo.

I don't drink much these days, but usually the odd evening.
I think the only time I'd drink earlier ,is on Christmas afternoon with the festive meal .

The only time I've ever had a drink in the morning is when I used to go away with friends at the airport. I'm not a good day time drinker, my hangover kicks in early and I am then ruined

Coming from someone who doesn’t drink these days (albeit for totally valid reasons), it’s not really your place to decide. And there’s such a thing as low-key banter to lighten the Monday mood (hence the slight irony and exaggerations in some of those poll options). I don’t know why you’re always so hell-bent on adding a negative slant to every thread on drink and drugs. You could just not smoke and drink in peace and let other people be instead of judging them when it’s not even that deep.
Redway every thread of yours is drink and drugs
That’s obviously not true.

oh yeah used to do that as well in my yout couldn't do that now
if I am on an afternoon flight I might have a glass of vino to kick off the holiday spirit
They don't even allow you to drink on a coach trip now. What's all that about?
As long as the driver isn't drinking, I don't see what the issue is with passengers having a little tipple on a coach trip.
In the old days you could have a smoke and a drink on a charabanc trip and a train journey. That was real freedom.

I used to love getting the first class train from London to Edinburgh with 4 cans of Stella, a copy of the Face and 2 bags of salt and vinegar.
No phones or nowt just the window to look out of.
im with Kizzy on this one. If you say i shouldn't drink before a particular time then it implies some sort of issue. Time shouldn't be anything to do with it

Now they expect you to travel down to London for a cup final and be sober as a judge.
Unlucky for them, I can hide a hip flask full of whisky from them. So I win in the end.

if i didn't drink a sip of alcohol on Christmas day I wouldn't cry about it.
That being said, I usually pop open the champagne at breakfast for some bucksfizz
I’d hardly call the weekend a ‘landmark occasion’

Yh, I’m not interested in spinning out a wider discussion on this topic on this thread but I’m just leaving it out there for people who might be interested. It’s not an invitation to argue or debate.
https://coreygilkes.wordpress.com/2019/08/25/the-racist-roots-of-cannabiss-criminalisation-in-trinidad-and-the-united-states/
That’s in the city text of the admitted racism behind the strip-searching of the black girl on her period all because a bit of Mary-Jane was smelt around her. Everything the police did to her that afternoon correlated exactly with the origins behind the criminalisation of weed in the first place (including sexual subordination of women to men) and that article nicely encapsulates that.
Again, this ain’t an invitation to spin this topic out further (this thread’s more about post-hangover Saturday bottomless brunches and Christmas morning Buck’s Fizz than anything else) but anyone who’s interested in discussing this in more detail can signify somehow (without derailing the thread otherwise) and I’ll make a separate thread for it (which hopefully won’t get deleted this time).

It is as far as morning drinking is concerned.

My place to decide what?.. all I gave was my opinion on the poll choices. The only decision being made i's once again for some reason you have determined I'm not worthy of participating in this thread.
If it's low key banter you were after then why post in serious debates?
I haven't judged anybody... :/

Erm … because this particular thread wasn’t posted in Serious Debates but general chat. I didn’t think it would ever get to that stage between us where I’d have to spell out the blatantly obvious.
Not interested, like. This thread isn’t the place so I’m putting a cap on this nonsense on my side now.

Some of those poll options were tongue-in-cheek so you can make what you want of them.
Of course I don’t drink on the job. And all that. But you know that. You just want a reaction.

tongue-in-cheek is fine but when you talk about drugs and drinking all the time can you see how members might get yhe impression that is what you do also I don't think you should be joking about these topics when there are younger people on the forum

What someone does in their own time is nothing to do with an employer as long as it doesn't impact on their work or happen in work. Problems may arise if laws are broken and criminal charges are brought as that could impact on their ability to undertake their role.

It's always been more a timespan thing for me. When I drink at all these days it's usually daytime (starting with lunch) but then I'm home by 6. If I was to go on a night out, I wouldn't start before about 7pm. I generally haven't had alcohol on Christmas because of having young kids.

I remember the Capital Radio days when we were made to go out on huge booozy lunches 3 x a week. We would get back at 3.30 and by 4 in the The Hot Rockin Tower at Euston, we were sobering up. My manc mate Benji and I had 2 bottles of of wine in the bog cistern and would take turns to recharge till we got the shine be on again. By 6 we were in the boozer and the pain was gone.

I don’t think you should be making sexual jibs at females on here who aren’t interested in you at any costs (not least because there might be some younger kids knocking around) but whatever. You’re going to have to troll harder.
