For the very first time, the BBC will be broadcasting the Junior Eurovision Song Contest on TV and online.

The competition will be held on 11 December with young people aged between nine and 14 competing to be named the winner.

It's been held every year since 2003 and this time Armenia will host after their singer Maléna's won in 2021.

It's similar to the adult competition, with the winner decided by a panel of judges as well as votes cast online from people all over the world.

Who will represent the UK this year?
This will be the first time that the UK has sent a representative since 2005, although Wales have previously sent singers to take part, most recently Erin Mai in 2019.

A singer has not yet been chosen to represent the UK at this year's competition, but the BBC says they are in "the process" of selecting someone.

I am beyond excited to bring the Junior Eurovision Song Contest to the BBC for the first time.

Junior Eurovision: UK act revealed as Freya Skye

A 13-year-old from Hertfordshire will represent the United Kingdom at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest next month, it has been announced.

Freya Skye said: "I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to be a part of something so exciting".

It is the first time in more than 15 years that the UK has taken part in the junior version of the song contest, which will be held in Armenia.
Freya was chosen because of her "genuine star quality", the BBC said.

The team behind Freya's song, titled Lose My Head, has previously worked with the likes of Ava Max, Pharrell Williams and Megan Thee Stallion. The process to select the act and song was led by CBBC alongside BBC Studios' entertainment and music division.

The song is about friendships, moving on and leaving the past behind.

BBC One, CBBC and BBC iPlayer will air the Junior Eurovision Song Contest on 11 December.

Carlos is 11 years old and comes from Valencia. He has participated in several televised competitions such as Idol Kids and La Voz Kids. For his Blind Audition on La Voz, he performed “Colours of Your Dream”, the Armenian entry for Junior Eurovision 2019. The singer also enjoys poetry and reading, as well as taking part in debate league.

Carlos was selected from 95 applicants via two rounds of auditions; an online casting and in-person auditions in Madrid.

David is twelve-years-old and lives with his family in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Alongside singing, David loves to ski, play chess, draw, play tennis, and also travel.

David was selected as the Kazakh representative for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in August. The young performer was competing in Baqytty Bala 2022, from which Khabar decided that one of the participants would represent Kazakhstan in Yerevan, Armenia.

Chanel Dilecta is representing Italy at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with “Bla Bla Bla”. The song was composed by Marco Iardella and was written by Carmine Spera, Fabrizio Palaferri, Angela Senatore. Katarina is almost thirteen years old and enjoys singing, ballet dancing, and playing trombone. She lives with her family in Belgrade, which includes her cat Leon and frog named En.

Katarina was selected to represent Serbia in Yerevan after an open call for entries by RTS, the Serbian national broadcaster. A panel of RTS music editors then reviewed the submissions and ultimately selected Katarina as the Serbian entrant.

Katarina will sing “Svet Bez Granica” at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.

Sophie Lennon is thirteen-years-old and comes from Mayobridge in County Down in Northern Ireland. She has been performing since a young age and has appeared on shows such as Ireland’s Got Talent and The Late Late Toy Show. In 2021, she reached the final of Junior Eurovision Éire and finished third.

Sophie became the Irish representative for Junior Eurovision 2022 after winning the public vote in the final of Junior Eurovision Éire 2022. She is the first Irish Junior Eurovision entrant from Northern Ireland and the first to be selected by a public vote.

Mariam Bigvava is a Georgian singer who lives in Tbilisi. She has been singing since she was young, and at the age of 7 began performing folk songs and practicing traditional instruments. Alongside performing, Mariam loves to play football and listen to Billie Eilish.

Mariam will sing “I Believe” at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.

“I Believe” was composed by Giga Kukhianidze and Beni Kadagidze and written by Iru Kchechanov. Giga has composed 11 Georgian Junior Eurovision entries, including their three winning entries.
