View Full Version : E22.Task 2.The Shrine of James McAvoy

James McAvoy is a Scottish actor. He made his acting debut as a teen in The Near Room and appeared mostly on television until 2003, when his feature film career began. His notable television work includes the thriller State of Play and the science fiction miniseries Frank Herbert's Children of Dune.

Or so says the Google headline from wiki. It misses out what a varied and versatile (hmm) actor he is. Superheros, chavs, lunatics, he's played 'em all!

See below...

Here he is in Inside I'm Dancing, also known as Rory O'Shea was here. He turns the lives of the residents of a care home when he moves in, particularly of young Michael who has cerebral palsy.

What is everyone's favourite film which has disability representation?

I've never heard of that one, I'll check it out, he's a fantastic actor.

My left Foot with Daniel Day Lewis was a really good film featuring a character with a disability

Here he is in Split, where he plays a supervillain with multiple personalities, and you have to escape from his lair before that twenty-fourth personality surfaces...

What is everyone's favourite film with transgender representation?

It's brilliant!

Oh, and it's an Irish film, so you doubly have to check it out ;)

And here he is as Professor X! Superhero movies are just popcorn fodder, so not a huge amount to say here :)

What's everyone's favourite alopecia representation non-MCU superhero movie?!

"Hi-oh Silver, away!"

Bill Denborough in IT Chapter Two. Great casting - I don't know if they cast the adults first (they're all pretty established) and then cast the kids for part 1 to match, but they all are cast great, all look like kid versions of the adult actors.
Like, I wouldn't have independently thought that Bill Hader looks like Stranger Things Kid, but they do look alike! I remember vaguely thinking that the Bill Denborough kid looked kinda like James McAvoy, but they'd never get him, that'd be crazy :joker:

What's everyone's favourite scary movie?!

Loved IT, that's actually up there with one of my favourite Scary movies. Not a popular choice but I found The Ring (remake) terrifying  story line wise I enjoyed The Uninvited and I also really liked Doctor Sleep

Mr Tumnus! I'd forgotten he was even in this, and I'd seen it again not too long ago :joker:

Goes to show how a good actor can disappear into a role!

What's everyone's favourite non-Potter children's fantasy movie?!

I think this film largely failed because Dr Frankenstein wasn't a zany old-ish man, and Igor wasn't a deranged hunchback. Stop defying expectations, Hollywood! :fist:

What's everyone's favourite modern reinterpretation of a classic horror movie (and why is it the Mummy with Brendan Fraser) ?

Lord Asriel (and Stelmaria) from His Dark Materials!

Despite not being a patch on the books, these are probably my favourite YA adaption.

What form do you think your daemon would take?!

I was never a fan of Shameless , t's so strange to think he started off in that LOL .
Reminds me of how Martin Freeman started off in The office, before his career took off.

As for Mcavoy , he's quite a good actor . He played the different personalities convincingly in Glass (haven't seen split) .

Yeah I'd say Hunger Games counts. It's aimed at teens, and teens are kids, as I like to remind my brother when he's acting all high and mighty :joker:

He was in a stage version of Cyrano DeBergarac - traditionally a piratical dude with a huge hooked nose, he's gonna be played by the midget from Game of Thrones in an upcoming film!
