Teaser makes it look like 11 killed everyone, but I reckon a gateway actually opened and something (or multiple somethings) came through and killed everyone, then when they went for 11 she went Super Saiyan and ****ed them up/sent them back to the upside down. Hence the "but you're the only one who can stop this" or similar comment from the other doc in the S4 trailer when he's talking to her and she says she doesn't have her abilities any more.

Yeah same.

I can't think of a better TV show in the last 20 years tbh, it's my favourite by miles. Also how discovered Synthwave music, which i've been addicted to for 5 years now.

I love the whole nostalgia of it, same with the IT remake. the 80's were a brilliant time for kids/teen TV and films

I'm baffled if you managed to watch S1 and S3 but just randomly skipped S2 :joker:

I was born in 87. Me and one of my gaming friends (she's 37) were saying how lucky we were to have grown up with the best of both, physical media, catalogues, going to the video shop every friday being aloud ONE film to rent, and maybe a game, and that would have to last you all weekend. Or buying a CD album and discovering songs, not being able to try before you buy, hoping there were some real gems in the album etc. And also now where everything is there the second you want it.

Like you say, Stranger Things really taps into that nostalgia.

I was only 5 in 1990 but honestly most of the stuff from my childhood is still 80's... the "big kids movies" (and a lot of cartoons etc.) in the early 90's were mainly still 80's stuff. Kids were still obsessed with things like Karate Kid, Back To The Future etc. in the early 90's... I suspect maybe because most people just had the basic 4-TV-channels back then and a lot of the movies that were shown regularly would have been made in the 80's, there was a MUCH longer cinema - video - TV cycle back then, I doubt they showed many movies that were less than 5 years old on the telly.

Not going to lie though, the 90's had some epic stuff too, very different vibe of course.

We're a definite bridging generation, it's an odd place to be I think. Remembering renting videos from Blockbuster and recording songs off the radio, but ALSO the birth of MP3 downloads, the internet in general, etc.

Gaming is a good example too; within the span of what I'd consider my childhood I played games like this:

https://amstrad.es/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=capturas:bubble_bobble_4cpc_3.jpg

Which I rented on cassette tape from the library, right through to this;

https://xtremeretro.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Resident-Evil-4-Capcom-Nintendo-GameCube-GC-Xtreme-Retro.png

Which came out when I was 20.

It's been 17 years since the latter and really, games haven't changed all that much in that time at all. We defintiely grew up during a 20 year span (mid-80's - early 2000's) that encompassed an absolutely massive shift that you don't really see in any other similar short time span. Certainly not in the last 20 years . The huge leaps forwards in tech, entertainment, the internet, smartphones etc.

I was born in 1978 so I'm on the older spectrum of you lots memories, I do remember getting a computer with internet though probably in the late 90's(maybe very early 00's?) You had to share the internet with the phone line and it was that awful dial up and it took forever to move pages etc, it was more frustrating trying to use the internet back then than anything else, I can't even remember when i started using the internet properly like more similar to how it is today

We were early internet adopters; I joined my first vBulletin forum in 1999 :joker: (believe it or not, TiBB is in fact my FOURTH long term forum home :omgno: )

But yeah, in the early days not only did it use the phone line, but there were no monthly unlimited options so it cost 1p/minute in the evening and something shocking like 5p/minute during the day. I remember when we first got "unlimited internet" (it was in fact only free from 6pm - 6am, so I used to wait with baited breath until after dinner to get online and catch up with forum drama  )...

...and eventually my mum got so sick of people telling her they'd tried to call and the line was busy all night that they got a 2nd phone line put in just for the internet :joker:.

I remember chat rooms, really basic ones being a thing, probably my first toe dips into communicating with strangers online, they were odd. I think TiBB was probably my first Forum though and i only stumbled across TiBB when i was looking for Big Brother opinions as none of my r/l friends watched BB anymore by 2009.

Just started Episode 4 of Season 4. Loving it so far. Just wanna say a small ish detail with most the girls, the main girl cast anyway = No Make Up. I dunno, i like that they're allowing them to be natural, and not all dolled up. I know it's a 15 but kids of all ages will be watching this, and it's refreshing to see their hero's without tons of Make up plastered on their faces.

Watched ep 4 last night, the cinematography of those final scenes :omgno: just really excellent.

Eddie was a good addition

I have a theory (no spoilers if I'm right :suspect: ) about that crazy scene in the earlier trailer where he seems to be playing his electric guitar on the roof of his van in the upside down... I reckon at some point they'll discover that the sound of the guitar confuses or distracts those demon-bat creatures tht are flying around (because they probably use sonar?) so he'll have to put on a one-man concert for the bats while the rest of the team invade the house in the upside down.

Yeah, there’s one more season after this one (but S5 is definitely the last one). I much prefer it this way, when there’s a set end point a good while in advance of the show ending you get a much better wrapping up of the story.

So now that I'm assuming most who are watching have watched up to date... WHAT WILL HAPPEN.

I totally called it not long after they started the "flashback scenes" firstly that the helper was "001" (that seemed obvious early on) and then also that he was Vecna (and from that, that it was him who killed all the other kids & Vecna was created by Eleven going nuclear and punting him into the upside down). I didn't guess about him being the son from the house. Awesome scenes though - full-strength El is clearly much more powerful than 001/Vecna so I guess we can assume she's going to return to Hawkins powered up and ruin his day.

Also, poor Nancy... I don't think they're going to kill her off... and I have a horrible suspicion about what will bring her back. They've made a big deal about the favourite songs and the "emotional resonance" leading the person back. But there's no access to music for her. But ... Steve is stood with her. I have a strong suspicion that they're going to go full-cheese and it'll be Hairy Steve telling Nancy that he still loves her and wants to be with her that "reaches her" and leads her back. Ew :joker:. Poor Jonathan!

Why does Henry/001 have powers? Where did he get them from, we know Eleven was given drugs while in her mothers womb but was it just that he got them naturally and Brenner just tried to copy his then or what? and how did Brenner know he had powers to take him in to study?

We guessed that Henry was No.1 early on, pretty much as soon as No.1 was mentioned, never guessed he was Victor's son though or that he was Vecna (not until right before it was revealed anyway). I never believed that Eleven killed all the other children but didn't know what happened up until that episode either.

"Hairy Steve" I like Steve, him and Dustin have been my favourites this season but i hate that they're bringing back the him and Nancy love story. They made such a big thing about how her and Johnathon were so into each other and she dumps Steve only for them to get back together again the minute Johnathon is gone for 5 minutes bleh

I think the implication was that no one knew these abilities existed, Henry for whatever reason had them - there was some weirdness about the nest of black widows? Not sure what that's about or if even related. But basically I think it's just that 001's powers existed, he ends up being studied by Brenner who seeks to understand, enhance and duplicate those abilities in the other kids, and it works better in some than others, maybe some already have the "potential" to have those abilities and he just wakes them up rather than creating them... and 11 had the most potential of any of them (more "raw power" than Henry even).

As for how Brenner got hold of him... I think they said that Victor Creel contacted Brenner (or I guess, "the government")? I might be misremembering that. Either way, it's implied that Brenner/the government people at Hawkins Lab always knew that Victor Creel hadn't killed his family and that other things (stranger ones :hehe: ) were at play.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but to outright call people ugly and some of the names you have Nicky is just unkind and uncalled for and says more about you than the people you are calling.

I hope no-one ever speaks about you the way you have in this thread.

Agreed.

Finished this last night. I found it boring in places and I drifted off.

I find it hard to believe such stuff, like super natural, I just don't believe it's a thing so I lose some interest. I prefer more realistic things.

In some parts it was amazing and that scene with the monster in the prison was some brilliant TV!!

I still don't actually understand quite a bit of it, but that's probably because I've zoned off quite a lot. I also think you need some previous insight into the last 3 series and I can't really remember what happened
