:shrug:

So Ricky Gervais is being hailed as a 'saviour', for making fun of and insulting transgender people. And he might insult a few gay people too.

Can someone tell, me why is insulting trans people FUNNY?:shrug:

I think Gervais is about as funny as a huge boil on the bum, but apparently, a lot of people find him hyserical.:shrug:

I've never got him. He doesn't tell what I'd call a joke. He just stands there throwing out insults. He reminds me of that big-mouth guy at work, who never shuts up and you wish would get fired.

But all I see is people on social media saying 'thank God for Gervais. He's saved us.' Not something I don't think God would agree with.

*Not something I don't think God would agree with.*

Just as well he's an atheist then isn't it :p

Comedy is subjective, the good news is if you don't find him funny, you don't have to watch his shows!

because he isnt, he is laughing at the absurdity of pretending something is something else in order to appear to be something you are not and to essentially have people think you are who you are not

its easy if you think about it :hee:

I can tell you the answer

It's basically the same as what's funny about offending non Trans people. Offending people is sometimes funny, that's life.

Yes they do, and you don't, that's absolutely fine, you know. It's called life.

Because a large part of humour is subversion, and saying things that one is "not supposed to say". That's the short answer. The long answer for this one, I think, is that actually NONE of it is actually "funny" at all.

Here's something that's funny in the show just specifically because it should be ludicrous but it's current reality;

"But what if he rapes me?"
"What if SHE rapes you, you ignorant TERF *****!!"

This should be something out of a satire... something that would never be said. It isn't. It's the sort of thing you now see being said all the time. I wouldn't say this is even a joke at the expense of trans people - most of the people coming out with this are not trans people, they're "allies". Usually cis men. Make of that what you will.
