The advertisers on denmarks shirts don't want to be associated with Qatar, so they have dulled everything down

England are one injury to Trippier away from Southgate having to explain why he thinks Luke Ayling is a better player than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Netherlands will send diplomatic officials from our government to Qatar, and also not ruled out that King Willem-Alexander will attend some of the dutch team their matches

there was talks of not attending because of effects of the war in Ukraine and current energy, gas crisis, minister Hoekstra after international debates has decided we will send government officials after all

Yikes !

I just heard about a guy who went to Qatar with his brother and wife last year .. they all got a little drunk and were imprisoned for three days .. the wife was taken off to a women’s prison .

The guys were injected/sedated whilst there were in their cells !!

That’s a scary thought

We are gonna have to take an awful lot of medics the way this squad is looking

Philips , Walker , Wellbeck and Wilson !!

We just need Darren Anderton , Andy Carroll and Lallana to have the full set of ‘sick notes’

Turkey and Pakistan are supplying thousands of security forces to Qatar to provide security for the world cup. Doesn't that sound like a lot of fun

Also, the UK is sending hundreds of police to Qatar to advise fans on how they should behave :umm2:

I predict lots of problems for people attending

Team Base Camps

Base camps will be used by the 32 national squads to stay and train before and during the World Cup tournament. On July 27, 2022, FIFA announced the hotels and training sites for each participating team.[77][78] This World Cup is the most compact since the inaugural edition in 1930, as 24 of the 32 teams are within a 10km radius of each other and are concentrated within the Doha area. It is also the first instalment since 1930 where players will not need to take flights to matches, and can remain at the same training base throughout the entire tournament.[79][80]

he's a real easy goalscorer (an easy recommend for our team PSV to try and sign, i would've preferred him over Luuk de Jong tbh)

Are we really gonna judge England or France's form off a tinpot competition? It's ridiculous that Southgate in particular has been receiving criticism for not doing well at the Nations League when his done well at the two major tournaments in the World Cup and Euros.

England & France shouldn't be ruled out 100%, they're both good teams and have outperformed Brazil in recent years.

so yeah ok, France can be contenders, if talents like Camavinga, Tchouameni, Upamecano really play well under this new added pressure

Mbappe or Benzema, i'd choose Benzema as a better clinical forward, definitely Dembele, Coman as wingers, and i'd put Griezmann in the shadow 10 role

Mbappe might be the most expensive footballer out there but Benzema is pure quality on the field whom is very trustworthy up front

experienced goalkeepers too tbh

I would have preferred Burns , Mings , Tarkowski or even Tomori

Netherlands are sending one member of parliament to Qatar, for one match

minister Conny Helder will be in the VIP box on November 29th at Netherlands - Qatar, she was invited by Qatarese officials themselves

if Netherlands qualifies for the knockout stage, they can reconsider sending more officials, a visit from prime minister Rutte or King Willem-Alexander are possible options then

Well England’s main man Kane is extremely fatigued !!

Not only has he not been able to finish games he’s not been able to complete training sessions !?!?

How is that going to improve over the next ten days when they are hoping to have intensive training/coaching sessions !?

Sterling our second scorer has scored just 3 premier league goals and one of them was a flukey deflection

Top scorer of the eredivisie, the most assists, the most successful passes, the most chances created and so on. It's a nice list of stats in which Cody Gakpo excels this season.

After the final selection of national coach Louis van Gaal on Friday, the 23-year-old winger of PSV is ready for his first World Cup. "I know it's something special. It's the highest stage you can play on and I'm very curious to see how I feel about it."

Special relationship with Dumfries

Playing for club or country can involve differences in tactics and position, but also when it comes to the environment and with whom you share the dressing room. That is also realized by nine-time international Gakpo, who at the last European Championship was allowed to participate eleven minutes in the group stage against North Macedonia.

"It's very different, because you don't often play together. But the group has broadly stayed together in the past year in such a way that you are a bit used to each other."

He can count on PSV colleagues Luuk de Jong and Xavi Simons. And a former teammate who acts as a kind of mentor. "Denzel Dumfries and I, we have a very good relationship. I speak to him often when I have questions. He already has a bit more experience, so he helps me a lot."

Gakpo continues: "With Steven Bergwijn I also go, I also played with that at PSV. I also have to say that Jurriën Timber and I are growing closer to each other."

Learning during the World Cup
Despite his top statistics after fourteen games in the eredivisie, such as most shots on goal (26) and the second most successful dribbles (25), the native of Eindhoven still sees plenty of areas for improvement.

"I want to be even more consistent and score even more. I think I can also learn a lot in terms of my head strength, my left leg and choosing position."

In the 105 matches he played in the eredivisie, he only came to seventeen goal attempts with the head. Of those, four ended up between the posts and one in the goal. It is true that in the same period of time he already scored twelve times with the left: a third of his shots with his wrong leg ended as a goal.

But you also improve yourself by learning and gaining experience, for example at a final tournament. "Of course you can learn a lot from other professionals in your team, who have already experienced such things. How they deal with certain situations. You get to know each other better and I think you can get a lot out of a tournament like that on the field, but also off it."

The next step
A good World Cup will only increase the interest of foreign top clubs. Yet the tastemaker of PSV does not think of an interim departure, after all the transfer troubles of last summer.

Gakpo: "I think at the end of this season I'll be ready to make that step. I feel like I was at the beginning of this season, but after this season I'm even more ready to take that next step."

His dream club? He's already there, he says with a smile. "PSV was always my dream club. Other than that, I don't really have one."

But when he thinks of the world top: "Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. It would be an honor to be able to play there, but I also have to see what kind of team I would do best."

First orange and the World Cup, with the first group game in more than a week.

France are not at one of their strongest moments so there could be some chances in that group for the socceroos, Tunisia is doable on paper and Denmark could be really close call, maybe chances for a little draw

the group games which look most exciting on paper

Group A: Senegal vs Netherlands
Group B: England vs Iran, England vs USA, Wales vs USA
Group C: Argentina vs Mexico, Poland vs Mexico
Group D : France vs Australia, France vs Denmark
Group E: Spain vs Germany
Group F: basically every game in this hard to predict group
Group G: Brazil vs Switzerland, Serbia vs Switzerland
Group H: Portugal vs Uruguay, Portugal vs South Korea, Uruguay vs South Korea

think Group E looks like most predictable on paper, along with Group A

i'm not gonna say anything about England's chances because i don't know where they stand with Southgate's messy tactics, while Queiroz has proven himself as a pretty solid manager for Iran in last 2 world cups, and Berhalter being very well respected by the team and USA having quite some talented players, and Wales well Bale just got back to form from a long injury, very eager too and in a winning mood again

not sure about Portugal either, hope they bench Ronaldo if they're smart, with his recent drama and basically insulting lots of current and former United players and staff, pretty sure Bruno would be more happier with Ronaldo benched than to be playing with that rat

Mexico relying on veterans combined with new talent, captain Guardado's 5th world cup appearance :worship:

Yet another example of the risks involved when you take injured / unfit players never mind players like Maguire who are not playing regularly and are a liability when they do play .. pretty sure Maguire played in all of United’s defeats / bad performances this season

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProMaguire has been England's best centre back for the past 6 years. Which centre back plays better than him when they're in the England shirt.

Playing with better players as opposed to playing alongside muck can make you look a totally different player.

You don't need to worry about Maguire's club form because he always does the business in an England shirt.

Just two days before Qatar faces Ecuador in the opening match of the tournament, the country changed its mind about allowing supporters arriving at venues to buy alcohol from stalls outside.

Senior figures confirmed that Fifa had come under pressure from Qatar – and will release a statement on Friday afternoon confirming that sales will no longer take place. As it stands, no immediate complaints have been raised about alcohol sales in fan zones.

Potential contractual changes to policy could be hugely costly for Fifa. Budweiser spends a report $75 million to partner with the World Cup every four years. On Friday morning the brewer responded to the news on Twitter saying ' well this is awkward'

Well I hope this teaches FIFA a valuable lesson about who to award their World Cups to :joker:

Fifa president Gianni Infantino has accused the West of "hypocrisy" in its reporting about Qatar's human rights record on the eve of the World Cup.

In an extraordinary monologue at a news conference in Doha, Infantino spoke for nearly an hour and made a passionate defence of Qatar and the tournament.

The event has been overshadowed by issues in Qatar including deaths of migrant workers and treatment of LGBT people.

Switzerland-born Infantino said that European nations should apologise for acts committed in their own histories, rather than focussing on migrant workers' issues in Qatar.

Infantino opened by saying: "Today I have strong feelings. Today I feel Qatari, I feel Arab, I feel African, I feel gay, I feel disabled, I feel a migrant worker."

Hosts Qatar kick off the tournament against Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday (16:00 GMT).

In February 2021, the Guardian said 6,500 migrant workers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had died in Qatar since it won its World Cup bid.

The number is based on figures provided by the countries' embassies in Qatar.

However, the Qatar government said the total was misleading, because not all the deaths recorded were of people working on World Cup-related projects.

Infantino said: "I am European. For what we have been doing for 3,000 years around the world, we should be apologising for the next 3,000 years before giving moral lessons.

"If Europe really care about the destiny of these people, they can create legal channels - like Qatar did - where a number of these workers can come to Europe to work. Give them some future, some hope.

"I have difficulties understanding the criticism. We have to invest in helping these people, in education and to give them a better future and more hope. We should all educate ourselves, many things are not perfect but reform and change takes time.

"This one-sided moral lesson is just hypocrisy. I wonder why no-one recognises the progress made here since 2016.

"It is not easy to take the critics of a decision that was made 12 years ago. Qatar is ready, it will be the best World Cup ever.

"I don't have to defend Qatar, they can defend themselves. I defend football. Qatar has made progress and I feel many other things as well.

"Of course I am not Qatari, Arab, African, gay, disabled or a migrant worker. But I feel like them because I know what it means to be discriminated and bullied as a foreigner in a foreign country."

Qatar has been under pressure to build a migrant workers' centre and Infantino announced a "dedicated and permanent office" in Doha, following discussions with the Qatar government and International Labour Organisation (ILO).

He also said every worker that has an accident "receives compensation by law".

"Depending on the magnitude, it can be several years of salary," he added.

Infantino also said Fifa's Qatar 2022 legacy fund will go into education, signing an agreement that will help 25 million children and women in India.

Just two days before the start of the tournament, Fifa changed its policy and announced no alcohol will be served at any of the eight World Cup stadiums.

Alcohol was set to be served "in select areas within stadiums", despite its sale being strictly controlled in the Muslim country.

Those in corporate areas of stadiums at the tournament will still be able to purchase alcohol.

Addressing the changed decision, Infantino said: "If this is the biggest issue we have for the World Cup then I will resign immediately and go to the beach to relax.

"Let me first assure you that every decision taken at this World Cup is a joint decision between Qatar and Fifa.

"There will be many fan zones where you can buy alcohol in Qatar and fans can simultaneously drink alcohol. I think if for three hours a day you cannot drink a beer, you will survive.

"Especially because the same rules apply in France, Spain, Portugal and Scotland. Here it has become a big thing because it is a Muslim country? I don't know why. We tried and that is why I give you the late change of policy. We tried to see if it was possible."

Talk about not reading the mood of the room

He compared his bullying as a young child for being red-headed to the marginalised
Opened his keynote speech in Doha saying that he felt 'like a migrant worker'
Suggested if Europe 'really cared' about migrant workers they could do as Qatar did and offer a 'legal' passage into the countries
Repeatedly appeared to draw a dividing line between Europe and the hosts
Reaffirmed that all were 'welcome' in Qatar over concerns for LGBTQ+ individuals
In response to a question over Iran's participation suggested a tournament be held there
Offered up Israelis and Palestinians being in the same country as potential for a 'door' being opened to peace
Suggested that the last minute changes to alcohol policy had brought FIFA and Budweiser 'closer'

the refs have been told to let the games flow, just like in the premier league. Souness was one of the dirtiest players to ever play professional football, so his opinion means nothing

Well it does in my opinion- as if he thinks the refs are too lenient then they probably are - given the way he used to play

Also letting the play flow doesn’t equate to ignoring really bad tackles.. time after time ..

How did Kane pick up his injury.. anyone know ?

matches of the tournament for me so far

France - Australia (am pretty much satisfied about the socceroos their own game apart from those defensive errors)

Belgium - Canada (yes i see potential in Canada against Morocco and Croatia, based on last nights match)

Ronaldo broke a record today. He has now dived in five straight World Cups

I did warn about the ridiculously lenient reffing .. allowing too many bad tackles to go unpunished !!

Then if someone is actually booked the manager just replaces them as they have 5 subs .

Last night Neymar was taken out as he ran through into the penalty box and the guy WAS booked as it was clearly deliberate and reckless .. he’s now possibly OUT of the World Cup :(

I thought the refs were clamping down on holding in the box when defenders weren’t looking at the ball ?

Neymar was poor in Brazil's first game, im not sure they'll miss him the group stages now anyway.

These unpunished fouls / assaults are getting ridiculous now .

Dutch star striker Gakpo was nearly kicked off the field with a tackle from behind ..

Ref just played on .. the pour lad is limping now

The teams are obviously targeting the opposing teams main players

For me it's france, spain and brazil that are superior to the rest and one of them will win it
