Don't be ridiculous.

I am being very good.

I am getting 0% yogurt, some fish pies and some other bits.

There's this guy in aldi and he looks quite nice, although they wear masks in there still. But I have been keeping an eye on him. I am secretly hoping he might ask me out on a date whilst he is throwing my shopping at me.

Hasn't happened yet but there's always hope

Have you chatted to him? you should create a spillage that's always a good ice breaker in a supermarket.

:joker:

I think he might be straight which is just my luck. Yes we've had a little chat but I get nervous. He's asked me how I am and what job I do and my plans, but then he might just be being nice. He does ask others how they are.

I'd feel like a common criminal if I did that, it's beyond me.

I like their yoghurts and fish pie.

They also do no sugar sweets... They do have all the fake sugar in but I don't care, they're low calorie

But yeah you don't get the same experience as other supermarkets. I do like how they have stuff in the middle aisles though

Saying Aldi is third world is a bit snobby
There are certain things that I will only buy branded but most things are packaged in the same factories......they just stick different labels on for whatever supermarket they are going to.
Waitrose use the same warehouses as Aldi....

I don’t knock any one for shopping there and who doesn’t love the pound shop

By third world I mean staff never any more than one person on the till and went I walk round I can’t see anything I want but each to their own.

It doesn't, but I just go with lower calorie item and I like it. What will make you fat is if you take in more food than your body requires for energy.

As far as branding and 'low far' foods go it is a con. They are often replaced with more sugar to make up for the no fat.

There's healthy fats and bad fats such as trans. Most are lead to believe they should avoid fat and packaging doesn't help.

Atkins, ketogenic diet for example, are diets high in fats and that's for a reason... There are huge benefits to eating good fats.

But everything in moderation.

I cook lots from scratch so makes no difference to me where I buy ingredients from and Aldi for a lot of things is cheapest. Their meat has been questionable so I tend to go to other places for that but the staples I need are there and cheap so good enough for me..

Is that sensory for her or because she has the metabolic condition?

If I'm being nosey and you don't want to answer then it's cool.

I think I remember you saying she was autistic

We went to a eating specialist at great ormand street hospital which she was under until 18 many years ago, to eee if we where doing things right when it came to food

Yes sensory but not willing to try other foods
She was not diagnosed with autism until 16 autistic traits are similar to those caused by her condition

In 2019 she was put on medication due to mental illness and severe anxiety

Very true

I'm not a parent, but I imagine the hardest part is trying to change something or to get someone to conform to what you think should be 'normal'. ...when it's quite normal for them...as long as you can get food down them regardless of whether it's unhealthy or repetitive. Pick your battles wisely. Human nature and to put so much stress on having a balanced and healthy diet.

Currently having the opposite issue here Sheriff (my daughter's 9 now) - up tuntil 7 or 8 she was similarly extremely limited in what she would eat and we had to supplement vitamins because she didn't get enough of loads of things. There was a sudden shift and now she's inclined to eat more or less anything - and massively overeat if given the opportunity (and will get very upset about food being limited). She's started to gain weight so now it's a balancing act between making sure she stays interested in a varied diet, and not allowing her to over-eat.

My daughter has been on supplements to give her the vitamins she needs because of a restrictive diet from birth and she is still on them now in tablet form from boots instead of powder

Her weight like your daughter is also an issue because she eats crisp’s snacks junk food, so she has gained weight which is a concern
We went to a yearly medical appointment recently and her doctor and dietion raised concerns which as a parent I already knew

The thing is her weight has been pretty stable but in 2019 she became mental ill and lost a lot of weight but after being put on anti depresannts one of the side affects is weight gain

It’s a juggling act at best.

Newer generation SSRI tend to have less side effects than older ones1st and 2nd generations or TRA and SSRI. Depends what she was put on. But could also just be because her mood picked up so she ate more.

There's been lots of clinical trials and research around SSRI and weight gain although often floored because people take them, tend to feel better and then put on weight because they're feeling better rather than it being a cause of the SSRI

Has she tried topiramate? It has anti-depressant, anti-seizure and anti-alcoholic effects (I’m not saying the latter two are your daughter at all but just for the sake of full context). One of the side-effects of that is weight loss (especially in the first year) and some people use it to counter-out the weight gain they get with some antidepressants. Might be something for her to think about.
