View Full Version : African-American music history month
A celebration of African-American music history month.
African-Americans for me have played a leading role in the evolution of Western music from the beginning of the 20th century to this day. From the Blues, to Jazz. A major influence on Rock n roll which birthed rock music to Gospel, Soul and Motown and of course in more recent times Hip-Hop.
Feel free to post any music videos you like celebrating the history of African-American music.
No better place to start than with the King of Jazz
Louis Armstrong, a huge star of the 1920s and 1930s. Here in his later days with one of his most recognisable songs.

In the 1920s a lady called "Ma Rainey" was given the title of "The Queen of Blues" but in the 1950s this lady was also given that title. With one of her most recognisable songs, Dinah Washington.

Love Stevie and just songs ..
Went to see him live at the M.E.N about 12 years ago .. it was kinda disappointing as we all wanted him to go through the greatest hits catalogue but he was a bit indulgent and each song ended with a ten minute instrumental segment..

Yeah always been a big fan, i know he favours RnB and soul music over rap, but he still used to play his fair share of rap and hip hop.
Westwood had great guests and freestyles, but as most people know the man is utter cringe and a complete nob for the most part.

This is why because of my love for the biggoted Alf Garnett that you can never see me as a racist. I love Alf Garnett because he's the greatest British comedy character ever and because he's a parady of a racist (he's taking the piss out of racists). But My love for people's talents whatatever their colour of their skin. It doesn't matter to me. I judge talent by person. Not skin colour. It just so happens when it comes to music. Black people have been the most influential. From this thread., you can't deny that.
Even the Beatles who were the biggest act of the 20th century were influenced by music with roots in black culture.
That doesn't mean I think there should be an anti White agenda. I just view people for who they are. It's not about colour.

Good post Alf.
Sadly some people do get drawn into extremes on either corner when it comes to black people being involved in entertainment, plus the pro-white vs anti-white debates.
Like yourself, I just want to judge people based on if I think they're good at their craft, not their race.
The only time race ever enters my head is with Hollywood products, because they do happen to bring it up in 80% of their products nowadays.
