Well if you've seen the footage, it's not a normal smile or even an out of place grin, it's like he is high on drugs. I'm not saying he was but perhaps he had a bad reaction to medication. But it's not right this incident has largely been covered up.

Instead he spent his time telling people on out of work benefits if you don't look for a better job your benefits will be cut. And he was also happy to let the bankers have bigger bonuses.

Kwasi Kwarteng will tighten benefit rules for part-time workers, requiring them to work longer hours or take steps to increase their earnings.

The new rule will require benefit claimants working up to 15 hours a week to take new steps to increase their earnings or face having their benefits reduced. The current threshold is nine hours, though it was increased this summer to 12 hours, which will come into force next week.

The further increase, expected to be implemented from January 2023, will affect only a small additional number of those on universal credit, about 120,000 people out of about 5.5 million claiming the benefit.

But the move is intended to signal a new offensive by the Treasury to fill job vacancies, with many industries facing chronic shortages.

Kwarteng will also announce new support to get over-50s into work, after a sharp increase in economic inactivity in that age group since the Covid-19 pandemic, with a significant number citing stress or mental health reasons.

The Treasury has found that economic inactivity in the over-50s is contributing significantly to shortages in the jobs market, one of the key issues driving up inflation.

“Our jobs market is remarkably resilient, but it is not perfect,” Kwarteng said in advance of the announcement. “While unemployment is at is at its lowest rate for nearly 50 years, the high number of vacancies that still exist and inactivity in the labour market is limiting economic growth.

“These gradual changes focus on getting people back into work and maximising the hours people take on to help grow the economy and raise living standards for all. It boosts incomes for families and helps businesses get the domestic workers they need, all while supporting economic growth.”

The changes will be announced at Kwarteng’s mini-budget on Friday, along with a slew of other measures including significant tax cuts and further details of the energy package to support households and businesses with bills.

Benefit claimants working up to 15 hours a week on the national living wage must now meet regularly with their work coach and take active steps to increase their earnings or face having their benefits reduced.

the tories proved many years ago that lowering taxation actually increased the net income from taxation because people are less likely to try to avoid paying it. That is a demonstratable fact. I have no idea if this strategy will get us out the crap, but it's not without solid evidence to back its use up. With regard to bonus payments for bankers etc. If we don't pay the same as they can get in other countries we won't get the best people, thats another fact too

There’s already letters of no confidence in Truss being handed in :joker:

If she’s ousted there can’t be another leadership contest, there has to be an election, the farce has gone on for long enough

Labour now odds on to win the next General Election. I have been listening to a lot of radio phone-ins this morning and every caller has been infuriated.

This bizarre mini budget has backfired.

But Tweedledum and Tweedledee (Truss and Kwarteng) are so deluded they're already planning new tax cuts. Insane.:shocked:

The International Monetary Fund has urged Liz Truss to reverse the decision to abolish the top rate of income tax, in a highly unusual attack on the economic policy of a G7 country.
The world’s lender of last resort heaped pressure on Ms Truss and the Chancellor, as it urged Kwasi Kwarteng to use his fiscal plan in November to change course.
The IMF said it was “closely monitoring recent economic developments in the UK and are engaged with the authorities" and warned that the fiscal stimulus risked undermining the Bank of England’s efforts to curb inflation.
A spokesman for the Washington DC-based organisation said Mr Kwarteng's announcement in November would “present an early opportunity for the UK Government to consider ways to provide support that is more targeted and reevaluate the tax measures, especially those that benefit high-income earners”.
It is an extremely rare intervention by the IMF over a developed country’s economic policy.
The rating agency Moody's this evening joined the IMF in warning over the Chancellor's plans, raising the spectre of a downgrade to the*UK's outlook and branding the mini-Budget "credit negative".*
Moody's said it was now not expecting economic growth to return to its potential until 2026, and cut its forecasts for GDP growth next year. It said the unfunded tax cuts would lead to "structurally higher deficits".**
The credit ratings agency said: "A sustained confidence shock arising from market concerns over the credibility of the government's fiscal strategy...could permanently weaken the UK's debt affordability."
The comments come as a warning to the UK that it risks a downgrade to its credit rating, which would raise borrowing costs. These costs have already reached their highest level since 2011 and the wake of the financial crisis.

days of market turmoil.
In an unusual move, Liz Truss and
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng will meet

My view is that the tories spent the summer wrapped up in their own bubble and just lost touch with reality. They have never been so disconnected from the UK population as they are now. Truss will be thrown out by her own mp's, but i still think the tories will be wiped out at the GE so they have nowhere left to go.
