View Full Version : What popular animals don’t you like?

Do you have any animals you have a hard time not getting creeped out/irritated by despite the fact that they’re generally well-liked/seen as cute (so obviously not pythons, Tom-cats or rats)?

Redway

Dogs for me because they do kinda boldly represent the most-annoying things about super-extraverted humans (noisy, overly-quick to form associations and hyper.). Brian Griffin’s an obvious exception (lol) and in a more general sense I’m not saying dogs are a bad type of animal at all (I definitely don’t hate them) but I just know they’re not for me.

And it looks like I’m not alone: https://www.theodysseyonline.com/sorry-not-sorry-but-dont-like-dogs | https://inews.co.uk/opinion/comment/i-dont-like-dogs-cant-people-just-accept-53487 | https://youtu.be/msCcO-nQfg8

Killer Whales then probably. How they stalk and kill their prey is impressive, but it's so sadistic the way they toy with, and torture some Seals.

Geese.
I wouldn't harm them ever but they are really relentless and aggressive.

As a teen I once saw a sign saying beware of the goose.
I thought it was funny and so still cut across the area.

That Goose charged after me and had me running like crazy to get away from it.
It was extremely aggressive.

Some people still have geese on their premises as feathered guard dogs !!

;;;; Geese have been used as guard animals since ancient Greece. They are the most territorially protective, vicious, foul tempered creatures in existence. Guard dogs can be distracted, not geese.

You can't compare animals knowing their boundaries to humans knowing theirs. We, as humans, literally destroy habits of thousands of animals every single day. If wild animals come into our areas, it's only because we've destroyed theirs. And even if we haven't, the waste of food we throw out will only draw a hungry animal in.

Your outlook is so strange on animals, and dogs. And completely uneducated

Listen, everyone’s entitled to like and dislike whatever animals they want. If someone prefers cats to dogs that’s their prerogative. Being so attached to an animal to the point where you can’t fathom why someone-else isn’t super-keen on said animal seems stranger to me but you do you.

The stuff about boundaries was somewhat tongue in-cheek. Come on, man.

You have the right to not like dogs, you also have the right to not like any animals. Some humans don't care for animals, sad, but allowed.

However, tongue in cheek or not, comparing humans to animals not knowing their boundaries is just plain stupid.

And you didn't say it tongue in cheek, at all. I respect you Redway, but don't be ridiculous.

Trust me, I love my animals (sorta) but dogs by-and-large have always been an exception. I’ve never liked dogs and the boundaries-ish is just one part of it. It obviously goes without saying that boundaries don’t apply to non-humans in the same way (I didn’t mention anything like a social media detox. from pesky Labradors at any point) but I’m just saying that not being able to walk through a park without worrying for your safety or comfort (which dogs, especially the more aggressive strands, like to encroach on even if they think they’re just being friendly) is annoying and like Jordan says a lot of their owners are too naively-calm about it. No shade to all the cute dogs out there but the world would be a quieter, safer place is dogs learnt to act just a little bit more like cats. I’ve never heard of a cat mauling a baby to death but unrestrained husky dogs have gone there on occasion.

Correct!

If you don't like animals, i don't like you. If you respect animals and wish them no harm, i can respect you. If you love animals, then i love you!

I've just adopted a dear little kitten. All 3 babies thrown out by next door, wankers. I have the mum, and the 3 babies with me. They're about 6 weeks old. The mum is sound, 2 kittens are a bit off ish, but my baby never leaves my side, only when she feeds and plays. She will snuggle with me every night, on my lap, on my chest. Just a little darling. So loving!

When my best boy Mickey passed (a dog) in my arms, 14 years old, i cried like a baby! His ashes have pride of place.

I feel bad for people who can't get love from an animal!

I don’t think anyone who’s posted on this thread is the sort of person to even entertain harming an animal for a split-second (if anything it’s more about fear about it being the other way around). It really is just a case of different people liking different things (which is fair enough). Not liking dogs, geese or butterflies doesn’t make you mentally ill nor a monster. It’s just part of what makes you you and that should be respected.

The main reason I became religious about using peppermint essential oils was specifically to deter rats and mice (not that I had any but I just wanted to take all the precautions). I feel like once you’ve added a few drops of it to a candle or given the floor a good mop with it (vinegar doesn’t hurt, either) you can leave out some rubbish-remains overnight from your Saturday night takeaway and not have to worry about rodents taking advantage of the opportunity. I won’t sleep soundly at night if I either haven’t fully cleared-up the mess or detoxified the space with some peppermint/clove/citronella oil. If I’ve run out of essentials and I can’t be arsed to clean (which doesn’t really happen with me) I’m not sleeping that night. That’s how-much I hate rats and mice.

Oh, dear. That can of worms.

I guess it would be different for me if you saw more puppies and dogs of that temperamental ilk around because I don’t think they’re too bad (and for what it’s worth those types are uber-cute). I quite like the idea of a husky or (better-still for the serenity) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel because those types seem largely okay to keep their gregariousness in check (you know what I mean) and largely do their own thing and there’s a particular streak of gentility in the Spaniels. A quietly-loyal dog I’d probably rather have as a cat (I wouldn’t mind one of it wasn’t for the fact that they have a certain propensity to bring in mauled rats and I just don’t want that on my doorstep, nor have I ever really cared to have pets over the years except for a good-couple couple of goldfish). I might actually have a think about getting a quieter dog and see if that helps me warm up more to dogs as a whole.

Peppermint, clove and (to a lesser extent) citronella and tea-tree essential-oils work a treat in dispelling vermin (I feel like you can even use cotton balls if you don’t want to have to dig your mop/candle-selection/spray out just to have reason to use them). Peppermint in particular is something nice and rats just don’t go near. It got to a point this-summer where I’d boil individual bags of peppermint tea, put them in an open plastic container and add some of those essential oils (and a touch of white wine vinegar) just to keep vermin away and the funny thing is it actually worked. I’d definitely recommend looking into it if you’re looking for a humane way to just keep them at-bay and away from your house/garden. Last time I checked it was buy one, get one half-price and Holland and Barret. :)

Cats are SUPPOSED to get rid of rats & mice, but i've noticed lately the cats around my area are too lazy to even do that anymore. They'll still continue to kill squirrels & birds though (another reason i dislike cats) i always feel sorry for the birds and squirrels .

Yup, I’m not a big fan of cats for those reasons, either. If it wasn’t for that I probably wouldn’t mind having one as a pet but I’ve never actually had any great affectation for them. I just wish noisy, aggressive dogs (which neither of us like, apparently) would take a leaf out of their book. Incessant ‘meows’ at night are obviously going to be more tolerable and less annoyingly-distracting in the dead of night than rough, loud barking.

And yeah, do try the essential oils thing and let me know how it goes. I might not be a massive dog-person but unlike the average person I’d still rather use humane ways of keeping/getting rodents out than just reverting to setting a trap by-default.

Re. dogs per-se I don’t know why such a pathologically-big deal was made from certain members about some people not loving individual types of animal as-much as they do. 7 billion people can’t all like and dislike the same things. We’re supposed to be different to each-other so long as there’s no disrespect (to humans or animals). There was an awful-lot of crazy disrespect from certain people last-night but hopefully it’s all been cleared up and those people have had a word with themselves.

Can't say I hate any animals, but if pushed my least fave is monkeys,I don't hate them but they are not an animal I find very endearing.

I was punched in the face by a captive orang-utan when I was about 5 years old but they are still one of my favourite critters
True story .. back in the early 60’s they weren’t that hot on health & safety ..

I’m one of those weirdos who actually don’t mind spiders (at least in the sense or not being in the least bit scared of them). Rats and mice, however, are a different story. Scum of the earth, they are.

thinking about it, from a pet perspective, my biggest hate is birds. When people let things like parrots fly free that can peck your eye out, or other birds that crap everywhere ... makes my blood boil

Yeah, I can’t say I remember ever seeing something like that happen and I only actually know one person who’s ever had one as a pet at all, let-alone letting it run/fly loose. Parrots are very-much caged birds.

Doesn’t their dirty/vermin-like nature make you feel a little uneasy?

Mhmm, (I’m sure they were cutie-wutie) but do you feel the same way about wild rats/mice?

Not a fan of mice and rats.

Like I said on the other page I’m a perpetual hoarder (not actually compulsively, but near enough) of clove and peppermint essentials (those rodents can’t stand the scent) and I haven’t even had a rat/mouse problem so that speaks a lot about my dislike for them. It does make me a compulsive weirdo in a sense but at the same time it’s hygienic and good for cleaning/aromatherapy to have them around anyhow so it is what it is. It’s a very small price to pay.
