[The faith-based group denied service
at a Richmond, Virginia, restaurant
is speaking out against what it
called a "bigoted" decision by the
eatery to cancel its reservation.

Metzger Bar and Butchery recently
refused to host a private event for
The Family Foundation, a conservative
Christian organization, over its position on
same-sex marriage and abortion rights.

Family Foundation President Victoria Cobb
told CBS MoneyWatch that the restaurant's
decision not to serve the group based
on its religious and political views was
"alarming and disgraceful."*

"It's not a good business model to have
the feeling like people are making an
assessment of you of whether you're
worthy to eat at their restaurant,"
Cobb told CBS MoneyWatch.
"It's uncomfortable for people to think
that's how we're going to function in society."

Metzger Bar and Butchery,
which called itself an "inclusive" establishment
that has rarely refused service to willing
patrons, said on social media that it
denied service to the group to
protect its staff, many of whom are
women or members of the LGBTQ+ community.*

"Recently we refused service to a group
that had booked an event with us after
the owners of Metzger found out it was
a group of donors to a political organization
that seeks to deprive women and
LGBTQ+ persons of their basic human
rights in Virginia," the establishment said
in a recent post on Instagram.]

If Christian run businesses can turn away the custom of gay people freely, then it works the other way too

This.

Personally I think that people should be served regardless of their beliefs, but I agree with you that this Christian group can't complain about being discriminated against when they're perfectly okay with businesses being Homophobic.

That's a slippery slope that I personally don't agree with you on.

Preferably the only time a business should refuse service from someone is if the customer has committed an offence towards the establishment.

This is the problem, where do we draw the line . And why is politics & religion even involved in restaurants. You go there just to eat and enjoy yourself surely .

Exactly.

Imo things like vandalism towards the business I 100% support a ban, just to use an obvious example.

But things like sexuality, Religion or appearance should not be room for the business to refuse serving the customer imo.

It's always Christian groups aswell, can you imagine if a Jewish or Muslim organisation was refused service by a restaurant ,I'm pretty sure that would be called "antisemitic" or "islamphobic" ,so I bet the restaurant would still serve them...in fear of being labelled those things.

It's like with the gay wedding cake story that hit the headlines, would a Muslim or Jewish business get sued for refusing to bake a gay cake based on their religion??. I somehow doubt it .

I agree.

Sadly equality never seems to be able to be achieved unfortunately.
